I'm looking to get a new F-250 XLT sometime this year. I'm curious as to what current owners think about them. What do you like, what don't you like about them? If you could, would you have bought something else?

 

Purrrfect! I only wish I had ordered a 2000 and a F350. Oh well.

 

The only thing I would change is I would get cloth instead of leather, then take that money I saved and have them professionally covered with a GOOD grade of leather.

 

They are great. But splurge and get the F350 with V10 and 4.30 gears.

 

I think the 2002's come with tranny temp gauge, digital odometer, and new headlights (with an oval in them in the same way lightnings have a circle)??
I don't own a superduty but I like them a lot, neighbor has one with v-10, 4x4 crewcab lariat - *nice* truck

 

DanB: The superdutys are fantastic trucks. I had an F150 before I got mine and I never thought any other truck would be able to replace it. My powerstroke diesel does!!! Order yours and get "exactly" what YOU want. But do your homework on all the options so that you really do know what you want I ordered mine with reg power mirrors and ended up having to order the power tow mirrors and install them myself. The new tow mirrors now fold forward (mine don't), which I wish I had when I'm backing the monster into the garage. And do take everyone's advice and get the F350 instead of the F250. That's is the one thing that I wish I'd done on my truck. And if you can swing for the PSD, DO IT!!! One more thing, if you like a manual transmission, the 6speed in the PSD is supurb, lots of control when your towing or backing a load. Keep us informed on your truck, what all your looking at ect. And do try to get to as many dealers as you have near you and test drive "every" superduty they have on the lot. This is also a great way to see/test the different options too.

 

So, you think the F350 would be better than the 250? It would be cool to get the PSD, but i don't really need it. I'm only going to be doing light work w/this truck. It's gonna be more of a toy than anything. Why would the 350 be better than the 250? The only reason i wouldn't get the 1 ton is because i won't be doing a lot of heavy towing. The reason i want a 250 instead of a 150 is because i think it looks better and i'm gonna be doing some work w/it, so i want the heavier frame and extra options. If i do decide on a 350, would it be best to get the V-10? The only reason i don't want to do that it because the cost of fuel would kill me.

 

DanB360, I have to agree with you about the look of the F150's. The Superduties are much more eye appealing to me. IMHO. If you do alot of driving in a year, you may want to buy the Powerstroke. The powerstroke gets better gas mileage then the V-10 & V-8, you will be able to pay off the cost difference of the motor in the gas money you save. For example, I drive alittle over 30,000 kms (18,720 miles) / year and the motor option would cost me around $7,500 CDN. I would be able to pay the motor off with the money I save if I compared it to one of the gas motors. The powerstroke would be paid off in about 100,000 kms (62,400 miles) or alittle over 3 years. For me, when I buy the truck, I won't be getting another one until this one is ready to be retired OR my duties for it changes. I am like you, it is a daily driver and worse case scenerio I might haul a load of wood back to Dad's place (1 and 1/2 hours North of here). There is numerous guys here that can give you their gas mileage for the trucks and if you go to other sites they can help too.

I know everyone really likes the V10's and PSD's, but I have to say that I'm very happy with my 5.4L. Upgrades are cheaper and the mileage is significantly better than the V10. Granted, the PSD does get better mileage and may last longer, but for the price I'd get the 5.4 and use the money to supercharge it

As for the 350 vs. 250, they use the same chassis. Unless you're a contractor, or do a LOT of heavy hauling, I can't see why you'd need a 350. And the 250 rides better - I love mine.

The main differences between the F350 and the F250 is in how much weight you can haul in the TRUCK. NOT in either of their towing abilities, they both tow the same amount of weight. The F350 has beefier rear springs sometimes causing the ride quality of this truck to be a little less than the F250. My husband drives an F350 V8 gasser work truck (vinal everything) XL model that will beat you to death. Lousy ride. It also get's poor fuel milage. But it does the job that it's meant to do and no matter how poorly my husband maintains the engine, it always runs great. No problems what so ever with the engine. The reason why most people will say to go with an F350 over the F250 is because the price difference isn't that much between them and then if you do get into a situation where you need the extra carrying capacity, you've got it. I test drove both F250's and F350's when I was about to order my truck. The F350 Crew Cab in the XLT or Lariet model rode as well as the F250's. The dulley rode even better. I wish now that I'd gotten the F350 because my F250 limits the "type" of trailer I can tow. I can tow a 30' travel trailer because most of the weight is behind me. But I can't tow any sizable 5th wheel because of how much weight it would put into the bed of my truck.

I can tell no difference in ride between the '00 F250 Super Cab and the '01 F350 Crew Cab.

Crew cabs are especially heavy beasts by themselves. With an F250, you don't get much in the form of payload capacity. If that is your choice of cab, then I highly recommend an F350.

I LOVE my F350. Can't imagine going back to an F150.

 

I have a question about gears, First off I am getting ready to purchase a 2002 F350 4x4 crew cab swb with the V-10 and auto tranny. I will be installing either 285 tires or larger, well the question I have , should I get the 4:30 limited slip or the 3:73's?

Do you think that my mileage will suffer that much going with the 4:30's, and if I went with the 3:73's with 285's will it feel sluggish and lose power? I am ordering in the next couple days and any and all advice is very much welcome !! Thank you.

I've got 3.73 LS on my diesel and I'm running 265 size tires. No problems at all. But then again, I don't know if because of having a diesel, there would ever be any type of problem with whatever tires I were to put on it (within reason, of course) I would get the Limited slip option unless you're planning on upgrading to a real locker after you get the truck.
