04 F250 v10?

Hello Gents,

I have an opportunity to buy a 2004 F250 Super Crew 4x4 with 6.75 bed with 57,000 miles. I have only owned F150's with either the 4.6 or the 5.4 and the 5.8 but never a v10. Are there any known issues I should look into with this truck? over all it's very clean just minor cosmetic blemishes from age. I have no idea what to look for drive train wise. Any help is greatly appreciated and welcomed. If there are threads on this please point me to them and I will check them out. I hate to sell my F150 but this 5.6 foot bed sucks bad. I take the kids camping with a 28' camper all the time now and I just like this truck. Just don't want to buy something with know issues unless the price is right. Thanks for all your help...

Adam

The V-10 runs forever, almost has the torque of a diesel, and sucks gas like there's no tomorrow. You can expect 10 to 14 unloaded and about 8 towing.

great thanks for the replies. So now it's all about price... this is a clean truck I hope it works out. My F150 only get 11.5-12.5 mpg's now anyway so I'm sure it will be close. I also have a ford focus ztw wagon to help save fuel... if it works out i'll post the pic's here.

Gas mileage towing is about what the 6.4 engine got... you all do realize how bad fuel mileage was on the 6.4 diesel, right?

The 6.4 gets a LOT better mileage if it's deleted and tuned. I know a guy towing a 16k 5th wheel with one that gets 16. I know a guy that used to get 9 towing a 7k bumper pull with a V-10 Excursion.

I know the milage will suck but it's not a daily driver. I tow a travel trailer and a 6x12 cargo trailer but that's it... My F150 does the job just fine but the F250 is just nice and super clean.

Your F150 may do just fine but the F250 will be a lot nicer tow with that travel trailer.

Exactly why I want it. I love my F150 but the 5.6' bed blows monkey ***** and I know the F250 is just as clean as my F150 and it will tow like a dream. Just need this dude to sell it already. He propositioned me now he's back pedaling so we shall see what's what hopefully this week.

I bet that F250 has much much better brakes for stopping that travel trailer too!

I have a 2002 E-350 V10 extended Club Wagon, that I use for towing.
I get 8 mpg, in town and high 9's when towing.
I only have 53,000 on it.
The V10 is nice, doesn't have the same power as my 351 Cleveland 2 bbl, that I had in my 72 E300 but it has been flawless, never the less.
At the time I bought it, I didn't want to drop much power, compared to the 351.
It does scream a lot going up hills, compared to the 351.
My '83 F150 4.9L 6 only gets 10, in town.
I want an F-250 5.4, to get a bigger payload and better fuel mileage.

The 5.4 in a SD won't get much better mileage, probably around 10 in town too.
