cleaning exhaust filter

Just got a 2014 250 with 6.7 and have gotten the message cleaning exhaust filter 3 times and only have 500 miles on the truck. Happened yesterday was showing 18 mpg. Within 5 miles I was down to 16 mpg.

Is this normal?

Sounds about right for what my 6.4L did before I deleted all that junk out of there with delete pipes and tuning. Puts too much heat through the top end and turbos in my opinion, and sucks down too much fuel to do it.

I had figured out the harder I ran the motor during a regen it would finish faster. Also, short cold trips will force a regen cycle more often.

Mine regens about every 300-400 miles or so. at first it would do it like yours until i was at about 1k+ miles. The drop during regen is also about average. mine will sit between 10-14 mpg depending how im driving while its cleaning. Advantage over the 6.4 regen is they dont take as long and use as much fuel with the DEF. mine runs for about 10 minutes when cleaning on the highway.

if you tow more or often and it keeps the egt's up itll regen less because its keeping it closer to the temp needed to clean the filter.
