03 F250 Throttle problems

I have a 2003 f250 that the throttle seems to stick at times. Whenever you go to stop the truck will stall unless you shift it to neutral and then the RPMs jump to between 1500 and 2500. If you slam on the gas and release it quickly it seems to idle to normal but it is getting worse. I read that a dirty EGR valve can cause this, however after buying one and tearing apart half the engine I came across a post on this site that says it has an electronic EGR. How do I fix this problem or what else can it be?

Ps I have already cleaned the MAS and the throttle body.

Have you cleaned the IAC yet? I'd do that next.

No CEL, no codes?

Sorry but I am not that good with the car acronyms so I am not sure what the IAC or CEL is. There is a code that reads misfire detected on a cylinder but that would not cause the symptoms would it?

If you have a code, post the EXACT number........

If you are getting misfires, you need to figure that out FIRST. How many miles on the truck, how many miles on the spark plugs, what brand are the spark plugs, and have you ever changed any coils?

I will have to read the code again and I will post it as soon as I can. There are 29000 miles on the truck and I just reaplaced the plugs about 1000 miles ago with Bosch Platinum plugs. I have not replaced any coils yet but I suspect there us a bad one. I will post the exact code later today.

That is part of your problem. Get those OUT of there ASAP and replace them with MOTORCRAFT plugs. Do not use antiseize, torque them to 28 ft/lb, and make sure you use dielectric grease in the coil boots.

Bosch Platinums can damage a Triton V-8. The electrodes have a very nasty habit of breaking off and rattling around in the combustion chamber.

Only 29,000 miles or is that a typo?

If you need coils, search Ebay for Visteon DG508. Those are OEM and less than half the price of parts store coils.

I read the codes this morning and they are P0174 and P0305. The 29000 is not a misprint I use the truck mainly for farm use and dont really drive it much.

P0305 is a miss in #5 - front cylinder, driver's side. P0174 is system too lean bank 2, which is driver's side.

Get the right plugs in there and the coil boots greased up and go from there. If you still have a P0305, replace #5 coil. If you still have a P0174, start looking for vacuum leaks, prime suspect is the PCV elbow at the back of the intake.

It would NOT hurt to throw a bottle of Techron in the gas to clean the injectors.
