My superduty is throwin a code

P0506

Idle Air Control System

RPM Low

Now it throwed this code last week, it was runnin all crappy, so i beat my idle air control valve with a ratchet, it drives fine now, but my truck just throwed that code again.

its literally a small chrome cylinder right inside that red circle, kinda a hassle to get to.

any suggestions? ive heard i can take it off and blow it out with canned air, or replace it, or beat it with a ratchet.

seems like itll be a little hard to get at to replace and a new one cast bout a hundred bucks

^^^^ ^^^^

Save the C-note. And just Keep that ratchet handy. Maybe get a bigger one...

Ok - you can always try the zero-dollar approach and clean/lube it (provided you haven't already fatally beaten the crap outta it).

Usually cleaning is a short-tem fix - replacement is indicated.

You could probably clean it out with carburetor cleaner. I think I did that once, when I had one get gummed up on an Explorer.

I've heard WD-40 does a decent job cleaning them. Canned air doesn't do squat.

Don't bother cleaning it. Replace it. If it's hard to get to like you say, then I wouldn't want to have to do it twice, if cleaning it doesn't work, see what I mean? Cleaning it may work for a little while, but it is not going to stay fixed lol. Been there, done that.

If you don't have an IAC, then what WERE you beating the crap out of?

Your engine doesn't have an IAC. The little can you have been pounding on is the motor that controls the throttle plate angle. Your P0506 may have been caused by a restriction in the intake tract or a vacuum leak. Is the P0506 the only code?
