Diesel Fuel Leak...
Riddle me this diesel pro's..
99 7.3L Turbo..
There is a lever to drain the fuel out of the filter housing so you can clean it out before installing the new filter..
Drain tube exits by the exhaust manifold pass side..
(I have had my truck mechanic look at this)
When the temp is in single didgets and below..
It leaks..The colder the worse..
After the temp rises during the day it stops
Dont seem to matter if the engine is hot or not..
It all has to do with the ambient air temp..
I'm not imagining this its for real..
Does anyone have a answer for this?

I would agree, that the valve might have broken. When it gets that cold, the fuel farther up the line could be gelling a little bit causing more pressure in the line letting a little more squirt out? That would be my best guess.

I use plenty of anti-gel all the time..
But who knows...
This truck does not have a seperator in it...
Its just so strange...

The way I understand this is that this New ultra low sulfer fuel is hard on the two o-rings that seals the valve. I have a 99 7.3 also and at this time I don't have a problem yet. I ordered a replacement valve with new o-rings just to have on hand. The new o-rings should stand up to new fuel. The price of the 0-rings were close to the cost of the new valve kit so I thought I would just replace the whole thing. I got my kit from Powerstroke.com . They were real helpful and know there stuff. Just my 2-cents worth. Hope this help. GOOOd luck.

Ouch, Chris sent you some vasolene with the valve kit I hope. I've known Chris and Dale (no longer at Wabash) long before they started the internet portion of the store and they do have good prices, but WHY would you order the whole thing? Those 2 orings are everywhere online now, but aside from that, those 2 by themselves have always been serviced separate from the whole kit direct from Ford. Every time I've had to replace those on our service trucks I get only those 2 o-rings. Total cost is about $5.

When I ordered my valve kit for around 30 bucks it was worth it to me to just change it out and not have to worry about it for a good long time. My 7.3 has just short of 150,000 and with the age and miles it was a few bucks well spent. Still a cheap fix and I hope good for another 150,000. Just my thoughts on this guy's.
