The Ford dealership nearest us has two V10's right now, but I don't like the color of either.

I have been told that if you don't work the Diesel engines alot, they will break down alot. Is this true? For now, I will only be using the truck about once a week to pick up building supplies. Later down the road, I will use it now and then to tow an RV Trailer which at most will weigh 8,500 lbs. Which engine would be the best for me? Also, what is the difference between a 4.10 and a 4.30 rear axle ratio?

I would recommend the V10 over the diesel for your needs. Yes MPG is better in a diesel but so is the initial costis higher, maintenance is more expensive, and fuel is more in my area. I just see no reason for you to need a diesel. As for gears...have not heard one complaint with anyone that has the 4.30 gears. Hope this helps.
