SuperChips FlashPaq for 2006 F250 5.4L??
SuperChips FlashPaq for 2006 F250 5.4L??
I've recently purchased a new 2006 F250 SD Lariat 5.4L and I'm thinking about purchasing the SuperChips FlashPaq to get some increased horsepower, torque, et cetera.
Has anyone used this product yet on the '06 F250 5.4L? I'd be interested in your opinions and experiences with it. I love this truck and have read quite a bit on this forum about peoples' dislike of the 5.4L on the F250, but it suits my needs almost perfectly, because the only thing I really tow is a 17" flats boat.
Thanks for any input!

I bought a custom tuned Xcaliber II from Troyer Performance and am happy with the results. Can't speak for the difference in performance between this and the flashpaq for an F250, but most guys on this board seem to agree that custom tunes are the way to go. They claim night and day difference between the 2 for F150s's so it can't be much different for the same engine in a F250. Look at the Chips and tuner section for more info.
I've got the exact same SD but a 2005 model. I picked up a Super Chips Flash paq this afternoon. I've d/l'ed the latest firmware and will set it up in the morning before I do a 600 mile trip. I'll let you know how it does.
My 2005 F-250 4X4 is completely stock except for the programer.
I must say that the change is impressive. The throttle response makes my 250 feel like its empty and I usually carry about 2500#. I did the update from the hotel computer and the flash in the parking lot, so its very easy to do. My first test was on a new tank of 87 and I made a Trip from Miami Lakes to Wildwood, FL. Total was 296 miles with four stops to make sales calls within 8 miles of the highway. I did most of the trip running at 72 and the dash mpg meter showed 15.8 at the fill-up in Wildwood. It seemed like the transmission stayed in OD lockup much more than it ever did with the stock program. This trip only had overpass grades but the 87 octane program felt very responsive and acceleration (seat of the pants) felt much better than stock.
Second test, I filled up with BP 93 and re-programed to perfomance mode in the gas station lot. Bottom line, I think I'll leave it here and buy 93 octane. Fuel mileage shows 17.1 running 72mph for 205 miles. There was a stretch of 60-65mph of about 15 miles due to construction, but I did not see the mpg go up more than .1 because of that.
Overall, this is the same gas mpg I usually got prior to the flashpaq but the engines feels so much more free/responsive.
Cost per mile using 87 = 13.8 Cents (2.19)
Cost per mile using 93 = 13.97 Cents (2.39)
So I see no reason to use 87 and give up performance unless I put my foot into it much more. I'm spoiled already!
