F-250 SD 6.0 Diesel or V10 Gas???

Looking into replacing my F-150 with an F-250 SD.
What are the major good, bad, and the ugly's regarding the 6.0 diesel or the V10 gasser?
Which do you prefer/own?
I will be towing a 7500 lb (loaded weight) toy hauler.

Thanks

If I had the money, I'd buy the diesel.

I don't think people understand how much power the v10 has. I own one, because of the fact I could not put up with the noise level from a diesel.

Supposedly the new 3v V10 engines get much better MPG while towing. Keep in mind what fuel prices in your area are at. Around here diesel is still up around $3.09 and gas is down around $2.55. Thats a pretty substantial difference. My friend has a 5.4L in an 01 F250 and he can drive and tow with that for less than I can in my PSD. Towing we come close to breaking even, with me having a slight edge. The gas engine will have much less upkeep. The only reason I can even afford to drive my PSD the 20mi round trip to work each day is the fact that I'm on the road for about 5 months each year so it sits for that time. For only 7500lb, the diesel isn't always the best choice. Every time someone on a message board hears towing the brain goes into autopilot and the response is "Get the diesel " or something like that.

Confucious say "Do not use sledge hammer to kill mosquito on friends forhead"

If you were pulling around 20k, or putting 50-75k mi on the truck each year then yeah, the diesel might pay for itself enough to justify having it, but for that little bit, it would be a stretch. I love my diesel, but with prices where they are I am fixing my Explorer up and will be parking the F250 to only tow rig duty and truck pulls.

I agree on the fuel prices, when diesel was $3.10 and unleaded was $2.91, I figured no big deal. But now diesel is still $3.10 and unleaded is down to $2.24 here in northern Ohio, that makes a huge difference. I only travel 22 miles round trip to work and back, in the fall, spring, and summer I take the Gold Wing. Right now I am pulling the toy hauler with my 2006 F-150, keeping the load as light as possible ~6800 lbs loaded (when I haul the Wing twice per year). The other times the toy hauler is used for camping without the Wing so the load drops ~800 lbs. The truck handles the heavier load ok, but I do not want to kill the F-150 either plus I am at the max payload and gvwr.

I'm in the same boat. I want the 250 with the V10. I searched high and low for an '06 V10 Crew Cab Lariat but to no avail. I guess I will have to order what I want in an '07. But I was hoping to get the deal on an '06. Oh well. If anybody has an X Plan left I might be willing to use it.

Did you call up your local dealer and ask them to search for one? I almost bet they will be glad to sell you one right now, with some great discounts as well.

Oh yeah I had him searching high and low too. Nothing to be found. I have bought about 10 vehicles from him over the last 15 years or so and he treats me well. We just couldn't find an '06 Lariat Crew Cab with the V10 anywhere. Just not that common I guess. If I wanted the diesel I could have gotten any color I wanted with just about any option combo. But I didn't want the diesel.

If you get V10 motor, be sure to get 4.30 gears! a friend of mine love his truck with 4.30s. he said it sure has powerful and good pulling.

The reason why he bought V10 is cuz he doesnt want to deal with winter that cause diesal motor trouble starter unless if you plug it to warm oil up..

Well the dealer found one truck that somewhat fits my request, V10, 4.30 gears, Crew Cab with split bench front (I need that for seating of 6), 9600 GVWR package, FX4 (did not need that, just 4x4). Should haul my toy hauler just fine (~7,500 lbs fully loaded). Sticker is $42,000. 156" wheel base?? Is that considered a the short bed ?? My F-150 Super Crew wheel base is only 139".

The FX4 just gits ya red colored OEM shocks, a skid plate, and stickers.

First thing I did with the '02 was peel off the stickers, and then put on high end shocks. lol

So was that a Lariat Crew Cab? Where are you located? And what color was the truck? My dealer and myself both searched and we couldn't find anything. Well, I take that back, we found a couple of trucks but they didn't have the tow command system. Why any dealer would order a SD and not get the tow command is beyond me. But we both figured that's why they were still around. So what was the outcome? You buy it?

IL6fan,
It is an XLT Crew Cab not a Lariat Crew Cab. They only could find one that has the split front bench seat, I need seating for 6 on some occasions. There were 5 others but these all had the sport bucket seats. I had him specifically looking for XLT's, I do not need the Lariat style. I am in Ohio and the truck is out of the state, I have to go to the dealer today to haggle on the trade on my 06 F-150. If we can come to an agreement then they will send over the F-250 to my dealership.
