v10 or Turbo Diesel
So what do you all think. I am thinking about my next truck (will have to pull my L around which will be my next, next truck) I was thinking a regular cab, f250. The question is would the 5gs be better spent on the turbo diesel or getting the v10 and dropping a whipple SC on it?

V10 vs Powerstoke
As the previous owner of both a powerstroke and a V10, I can tell you it's cheaper to buy and operate a V10. The $4000-$5000 initial cost and the 15 quarts of oil and fuel filter at each oil change make the powerstroke expensive to say the least. My powerstroke got about 18mpg while the v10 got about 15mpg. The power and torque are great with the V10. I pulled a tractor and tree planter that weighed about 11,000lbs. with no trouble.

I just drove my first diesel home two weeks ago. I absolutely love it and just can't get enough time behind the wheel. The engine has unbelievable power and the sound is awesome. It's hard to believe just last year I never even considered a diesel, and now I won't ever go back to a gasser.

Although I haven't driven a new diesel, I have been thoroughly impressed by the V10. I've had a few 2.5 to 3 ton loads of gravel on a F350 SRW, and it hauled it w/out a hiccup - it still had good accceleration at 60 mph.
Personally, I couldn't justify the extra initial investment, 15 qt oil changes, fuel filter at every oil change, and then their is the extra noise and the stink of diesel fuel.

I bought my 1999 F250 diesel 2.5 years ago with 40,000 miles. Now the truck shows 149,500 miles and still runs like it did when I bought it. I have put two fuel filters in it and change the oil every 8-10K miles. I go to Wally world and buy the Rotalla T which runs $7.00 a gallon with tax and go to Sears to get the Purulator oil filter which costs only $2.99. All in all $30 for an oil change every 10K miles is far cheaper than changing the oil on a gasser every 3K miles at $15-20 a pop. Diesel fuel in my area has been 10-20 cents per gallon cheaper then gas.
The 99 F250 replaced the 99 F150 4.6 which was a tenth of the truck I have now. I will never buy another gas guzzler again.
Put 10,000 pounds behind a 6.8 and a 7.3 or 6.0. See which ones gets better fuel economy and way more power! For sure worth the extra $5,000 when purchased new. Look at the blue book value of used 5.4 and 6.8 Super Duty's, not good.
