6.0L - What are the CONS?
6.0L - What are the CONS?
Over and over I'm hearing the praise of the 6.0L... well, there has to be a flip side to this coin.
Tell me the cons...
I know the obvious ones... noise, expensive to work on, difficult to work on blah blah blah...
What are the blazing guns that the 6.0L has exprienced?
Thanks,
RP

Probably the early fuel injectors C94. Were replaced w/C95 in May 03. Some failed/some didnt. Only have 5K on mine, but OK.
Beaware that todays 04 6L is not the same as 03 6L. Lots of changes made. 04 has no track record, and 03 just barely getting one. Probably by end of this year, should tell.
Not sure what your want to know?
OT....

Check out www.thedieselstop.com if you are looking for the downsides of the 6.0. It looks like a lot of the early problems have been fixed and things are going good for the 6.0 now, but there are still a lot of people on the forums there complaining. I was originally going to get the new F150, but think that I've convinced myself of the advantages of a 250 or 350 with the 6.0. I am still going to wait a few more months, but I will have a new 6.0 soon!
FR, yours is not even broke in yet???
The heads were redesigned and installed on the 04's...
I have a 04/03 and about 6000 miles, two months old...
Had some small air leaks, you can hear the air leak because the engine is so quiet..
Dont get the steel wheels as nobody can spin balance them, not even the dealer...
Filters are high dollar, better save your penny's...
Dont let other cars get out in front of you, as they will lose the battle...
I think it sucks that you dont have to spend money to hot-rod them(like the 7.3) because they run so good from the factory...

Rock-I was concerned over reading all the terrible posts on dieselstop but figured out most are the '03 version and others just were whiners over little things like a squeak or oil stain that wasn't even a leak. I bought the '04 version in the crew cab lariat and it is a great rig. Only 2200 miles but extremely powerful, great tranny(AT). Little getting used to the diesel with minor smell at times and a little lag off the line vs a gas engine but overall a good rig with very good mileage(16 street/17.8 hwy). I replaced an '01 supercrew lariat 4x4 and am so far impressed and happy. Good luck.
Thanks for the response Glenn. I do appreciate it...
I think I'm going to have to hold off for the time being. I'm a little bit spooked about the 6.0L but, overall, the biggest reason that I'm going to hold off is because I don't need that much truck. I rarely haul or pull much of anything thus, I just don't think I can justify the extra few thousand over a F-150.
Even with my Z-Plan (same as A-Plan) pricing, I'm going to save a few thousand with a F-150 and, with the King Ranch package being offered in 2005, I think I'm going to sit back and wait a little bit longer... No hurries... I still have a few thousand worth of warranty so, maybe I should ride it out.

RP,
Sorry to hear a new Super Duty isn't in the cards. Yes, they're one hell of a truck when it comes to pulling power, but I'm stll not sold on them as a daily driver - particularly where it comes to turning radius. If you really miss the diesel experince, you could always start hanging around the local truck stop or greyhound bus station. Unlike Bill Clinton, you'll have to remember to inhale though.

I'm upset that it won't happen right now but, I think that being patient will pay off in the end. I'm very anxious to see a 2005 F-150 King Ranch first hand and feel confident that it'll be my next truck.
