Unhappy Rear wiper

Help I have a 99 expedition and the rear window wiper quit. I replace the motor unit and it didn't take care of the problem. Any ideas?

According to my Haynes manual there are 3 fuses that could be causing trouble. F11 (30A) , F14 (15A), and F12 (10A). If you have front wipers and a rear washer F11 is ok. Check F14 and F12. The other thing is that there are 2 relays that control the wiper, 1 UP and 1 DOWN. When you put in the new motor did the wiper move at all?

Good luck.

It could be....

the switch in the stalk. Ford is known for bad/faulty/poorly designed switches. I was still under warrenty, so I took it to the dealer. However, with an Ohm meter check the connections. If you do not get readings when you turn to the 1 or 2 position, it is the switch.

Obviously, checking the fuses will be much easier. Start there. If all the fuses are good, then go to the switch.

Recently my rear wiper (with it's second motor) wouldn't turn on. I was able to bring it back to life by turning the switch on and rapping the wiper arm (at the point it fits on to the motor shaft) with the palm of my hand (in effect, pushing in on the motor shaft). After bringing the motor back to life, I turned it off, removed the wiper arm from the motor, and drove around for the rest of the day with the rear wiper switch on. I did this assuming that long periods of non-use tend to cause activation problems, but that is just a guess.

Do you all actually use those things? I wish mine didn't have a rear wiper, dang thing just gets in the way when I wash and / or wax, I'd much prefer a nice smooth section of rear hatch.

BTW, most folks don't use their mirrors anyway and as I drive, if the fellow behind me wants my attention, he only need to hit his blue lights

I believe Ford has a TSB on the rear wiper, mine did the same and was replaced. Also had the multi stalk replaced.

I'm with Petrol on this one I never use mine leaves those lines on the window that look like crap ;-) my wife turns it on by accident when she tries to turn on the regular wipers I think She finally has it down .. Mine also has a problem that it scratches the paint right at the end of the wiper a little looks like the blade is on correctly and all maybe just needs a new blade that is a little harder so it doesn't sag as much ?? but I think I should just cut the wire or something ?? :-)
