Cat Back Exhaust Suggestions Please...
Alright folks....this is my first post ever on this particular website and I need some help. I've got a 2002 F-250 with the 5.4L V-8 and I'm looking to put a cat-back exhaust on it. I want the one that makes it sound the best. I'm looking at getting a single in / dual out Flowmaster 40 Series with 3.5" resonator tips. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this setup on a similar truck and how it sounds. My concern is how the cat affects the sound. Right now the truck kind of always sounds like it's got an exhaust leak when you accelerate hard (it doesn't, but I'm convinced the cat makes it sound that way). Will the Flowmaster with 3.5" tips give it the V-8 rumble that I'm looking for....even under acceleration (when it normally sounds like it has the exhaust leak)??
Also, if anyone has pictures of 3.5" tips sticking out the back under the bumper I'd like to see them. I haven't seen an F-250 with pipes sticking out the back and I'm considering running them out on each side behind the tires instead of straight out the back. Any opinions??
Thanks for the help...

flowmaster catbak would be a good choice for noise and good sound. Cats take away alot of sound though. Tips look good on any truck. Get a bigger diameter like 4 or 5 inch inch cause they make the sound echo and get a deeper tone.
The F150's actually have FOUR cats!!
Two on each pipe coming off the manifolds. Then they come together on the passengers side as a single pipe via a Y pipe.
I believe your SD F250 has just one large cat, after it comes together after the Y pipe??

Cool. Thanks for the help. I'm headed to the muffler shop this afternoon. I think for now I'm just gonna go with the Flowmaster 40 with a turn down. I can add pipes later if I want to. If that doesn't give me the sound I want then I guess the only other option is to replace the cat....which I think would be expensive.
What does one high flow cat cost anyway?

Hey 12th man!! I would do a true dual from the cat(s) back if you have the four cats- 2.25 exhaust and tailpipe into 2 FLow 40's into the big chrome tips out the back-know we have different motors, but LOVE the way mine sounds.

12th man i wouldnt go with turndowns. Youve seen what exhaust does on stock exhaust on 97's; turns wheels green and fries brakes. Get tailpipes-turndowons put exhaust gas on all undercarriage and rust the underside of bed. Do what u want but i would never put turndowns on my 98, hell no

I"m actually gonna go with a cat-bax dual exhaust with a Flowmaster 40...when I get it done.
I've got an F-250 so my convertor setup is different from most of y'alls. I have one BIG converter after the Y-pipe instead of the 4 small ones before it. Therefore, running true duals on mine would be a bit more expensive because I'd have to buy two converters, two mufflers, two tips and of course all the pipe...

My dad has a 2000 F-250 SD and about a month ago we put a 3" SI/SO Flowmaster 40 DF (sounds very nice!!
) and I noticed that there isn't a sensor AFTER the big catalytic... I know there's one somewhere b4 that cat. Since the computer doesn't know what's coming out of that cat I'm sure you could just cut that big cat off and be fine. ???? Dunno... I had a hard enough time convincing him to put that flowmaster on I really doubt he'd go for an idea like that BUT its a suggestion for ya.

FLowmaster 50 series, SI/DO, exiting in front of the right rear tire, no discoloration what so ever (even with 12k miles and no tire rotations) I've got a sound clip if you want!!!!
