Exhaust size help

So I have a 2004 Lariat and I recently ordered a 2.5" in/out dynomax bullet because i thought my truck had a 2.5" pipe. Just measured the tip of it and it's only 2"? I know this isn't normal or good for the truck to just have a 2", does anybody know if it's shrinks before it gets to the muffler or why it would have this?

what engine do you have ?

But it does not seem standard for the tail pipe....wonder if it had been replaced somewhere along the line? You're gonna have to crawl under there and measure the outside pipe before the muffler.

Since he said Lariat it has to be a 5.4L as the3 '04/'08 FX4 and higher trims only had the 5.4L. The 5.4 and 4.6 also shared the same exhaust system on these years.

The stock exhaust systems on the two 5.4L 3v trucks I had was full 2.5", with the tailpipe portion upping to nearly 2.75". Sounds like your exhaust has been changed.
