Magnaflow Cat-back sound level question

When I had my 08 Reg Cab F150 with the 4.6L I put a Magnaflow Catback on it. SI/SO and dumped it just over the rear axle by removing the tailpipe piece of the kit. I love the way it sounded.

I have been trying to achieve that same sound out of my 14 SCAB and cannot figure out why a SI/DO Magnaflow Cat-back does not sound like the old one. I mean it has the low rumble but it is too quiet.

Then I read somewhere that Ford didn't start using resonators until 2011. I am thinking of taking mine out to get back that sound I miss so much.

My question is, the cat-back systems between the two trucks use the same measurement muffler except for the Dual Out part. I even dumped the new kit right over the axle just like in the old truck. So, it stands to reason that if I delete the resonator, I should get my old exhaust sound back, right?

I have been looking for videos of a Magnaflow cat back with and without the resonator on a 2011-Up for comparison but all I can find are different brands of exhaust and not alot of before and afters.

PM '05RedFX4' and ask him, I believe he has the catback with removed resonator.

After much deliberation and getting high price quotes for cutting out ($50-$70) the resonator I chose to get the delete pipe ($100 shipped) so I have the option of going back.

I ordered it yesterday and it is supposed to be here by Monday. Once it arrives I am going to try to get a decent recording of the exhaust before and after. I will make a new thread about it so the title reflects the content for future search references. Maybe it will save others time in their decision.

I finally got around to installing my delete pipe. Unfortunately I didn’t get any sound clips as it was spur of the moment and a limited time frame. I do like it though. I was afraid there was going to be a drone at about 1500-2000 rpm's since this is my cruising rpm’s on the highway but I was pleasantly surprised. At a stop it sounds normal with a low light rumble. However, when you get on it, it comes alive. When you start it up cold it sounds really good. It’s a little louder than my 08 with the 4.6 was. I think that is because the Magnaflow muffler is smaller than the kit that I used on my 08. They probably made it smaller because of the resonators on the newer models thinking nobody would bother with removing them. Now the real question, do I recommend removing the resonator?

I will say it is worth trying. I can see how it would not be for everyone since it is noticeably louder. If you are going to do it, buy the delete pipe, install it and if you don’t like it you can always sell the pipe and put your resonator back in. You can always sell the pipe even at a small loss. Just keep the box it comes in so you can pass it on if you decided to pass on it after hearing it. I find having the option to return to the resonator allows me to enjoy the new setup without having “God, I hope I don’t regret this..” bouncing around in the back of my mind. I will try to capture some sound clips but the computer never really does exhaust notes justice.
