Have been running a small siso flopro since 08. I want something just a tad louder. One shop tells me flowmaster w new tip $130. Another shop tells me ford is the only truck that can run true duals with no x or h pipe necessary. Says flowmasters in that setup would be $450 with all new pipe from cats back and tips.
Question is why, its just for sound?
Ive listened to some on youtube, and they seem either too hollow or pop like old fashioned packs withouts cats.
Thoughts? $130 for "a new sound" or $450.
135k miles on it and the flopro is still in great condition, running since 50k miles.
You do in fact need a X-pipe if you run true duals.
If you want louder, get a straight through muffler, not a chambered one. The Flopro is a ricer muffler, I had one on mine and it sounded like crap compared to the glasspack I have now. If you want the looks, get a SI/DO and get dual tailpipes.
A local shop here did mine - a SI/DO Gator glasspack and dual pipes for under $250.
I cut out my stock muffler(The monster) and welded in a new stainless Flowmaster 50. Cost was $95.00 Sounds great outside but quiet inside. Great on long trips, no04 f150 STX 4.6 V8. X pipe will stop the lost of power if you run duals.
For $265, I went with a 3 inch pipe from the Y, back to a SISO Flowmaster 40 Series. Sounds great under load; pretty quiet otherwise. I am getting 1-2 more MPG and the truck just "feels" better, compared to the stock pipe with a Flo Pro.
Hey 329PD - Can u do a sound clip? I was going to work last week and a newer Silverado had a sweet sounding exhaust. I pulled up next to him and ask what he had and it was the 40 series with the cats removed (siso). Sounded good! Got the itch to swap my 7 y\o 18" maggie
