Muffler question

First off.. My truck is 98' F250 XLT 5.4

F150 look alike to those unfamiliar with the truck.

I was looking at replacing the stock exhaust with dynomax bullet 12". I do like the look of a dual enhaust system though. Could I add a Y behind the bullet and have the dual exhaust look without it softening the sound of the bullet? This truck will be given to my daughter in another year so I want to make it load enough I can here it come and go from the house ... No sneaking out at my house!!

Yes, that can be accomplished by an exhaust shop. A set of rolled tips should make it slightly louder. It will definitely be heard.

sure can

many companies offer a singe in dual out cat back system for people like you, however it sounds like you know what you want and if I may offer a suggestion it would be to go with 3" pipe after the Y for a deeper note

thanks for your replies. Would going from the Y 2.5" to a 3" to the muffler ruin my scavaging and fuel mileage? Or is most of the scavaging done before the reducer at the Y?

I was also thinking of going with a 3.5" tip to help with sound as well.

I'd leave the stock 2.5 inch mid pipe setup in place, then the single in dual out muffler, or a Y after the muffler to the dual 3 inch pipe, that way you don't lose anyl low end, and get a deeper note, and the 3.5 inch tips won't hurt anything either

One last question before I purchase my muffler. Looking at the different dynomax bullets I ran into muffler #24246 & #24215.. But looks like specs are identical. Does anyone know the difference on these and which one might be the best sounding bullet?

Thanks again for all the replies

According to SummitRacing.com, they are both the same size mufflers, but 24246 is stainless steel as 24215 is general steel. Didn't know they started those in stainless, nice!
