QTP E-cutout for Ecoboost
QTP E-cutout for Ecoboost
So I bought a new Ecoboost and love the truck but I miss the deep rumble of my 5.4L with a 14" Magnaflow. Since I have read that the stock muffler is the best one for the EB I want to put a QTP electronic cutout in the exhaust to make it loud when I want it and stock when I don't. I have seached high and low and can't find anyone that has done this to the EB. I did find some videos of it installed on a 5.4 and I want it. Is there a reason people don't do it to the EB? I'm more concerned with mechanical issues than it not sounding good. If it sounds bad then I'm out $200 and I just always leave it closed. Any thoughts would help as I want to order one this week. Thanks!
I don't want another V8, but I do want an exhaust. The EB is better than my old 5.4 Triton. Anyway I just want to know if I will tear something up by putting a cut out in? It should give the turbos more air therefore increase the hp and torque.
It may actually impede flow, depending on where it is downstream from the headers. The real key to a successful exhaust is the pipe length after the port. I am certain the engineers at Ford have that part handled, aren't they the ones that built the BOSS engines? Listen to the others, it will never sound like a V-8, because it isn't and the best flow you will achieve is with the stock system, period. That cutout will make it sound like a wounded bee under a civic...........Leave it alone, besides, I love kickin' azz with no noise, it makes them skeered..........
Here is the easiest, cheapest solution to your problem.

Not to sidetrack this thread, but as silly as it 'sounds' (no pun intended, LOL) I seriously think if I were to spring for a new truck, I'd get a 5.0. I know I'm probably crazy as hell for not getting a EB with my trailer and all, but the 5.0 is still much more capable than my current 5.4 I'm used to. It would be a fuel mileage and performance improvement over the current truck and I'd still have a great sounding truck I could put an awesome exhaust on!! Plus, if all else fails, Edelbrock does make a supercharger for the 5.0!!!
No mistake. Explain to me how it is a mistake? I have all the power I could possibly need, I can out accelerate most of the trucks on the highway and if I choose to mod it a bit I could run 12s at the strip, get fantastic gas mileage, enjoy a very throaty exhaust very time I get on it, and for 28,000 miles, I have had no worries whatsoever. Nor, have I had to add oil catch cans or be concerned about any other issue. Wish more of my life's mistakes turned out this good!
Edit: One other thing, you probably don't have a wife that whne she hears the 5.0 start to roar, says " I', sure glad you did not buy that Ecoboost!".

What you don't get is that some of us "older" hot rodders leave the radio off just to listen to the exhaust "music". I drive 26 miles one way to work every morning, and I listen to the news, then turn it off just to listen to the engine on the country roads. It is truly a beautiful sound to some of us and can be a major part of the buying decision.

aussie...I absolutely get what you're saying and it does sound silly when you write it out like that. But to answer your question...yes! However, as my compadre's have already alluded to, it's not a mistake. For me, it's an educated decision....it's still a huge improvement across the board over my current truck, and I'm left with the 'sound' (yes) and the freedom to mod the things I want to mod; another thing that's very important to me that you may or may not have the luxury of doing on the EB. In this one man's opinion, the 5.0 is a win/win from the current truck line-up. The EB has more give & take to it for my needs and desires.
And I do apologize guys...I truly didn't mean to sidetrack the thread and especially didn't mean to turn it into a EB vs everything else thread!
