Hey "Y" pipe owners

Hey Area52, Jackel, Doorslammer69,JoeT and Howies_effie
the "Y" pipe installation sure looks like a cheap and effective mod. I'm considering it, but I would dearly hate to loose any Low end punch. Question: to your best assessment, do you feel like you lost any bottom end? Thanks in advance.

Mine feels a little stronger all through the power band, and I know torque is up because the back tires break loose a little easier. Not much, but every little bit helps. Also, the sound is deeper for sure.

As long as you don't oversize the pipes coming out of the Y to the muffler you should be ok. I know I did not detect any loss at all with my X pipe. It's hard to tell If I gained, low end gains would be rather small. Sure sounds fast as hell now though

lrutt,

My initial test spin after the installation of the Y felt like a slight loss of low-end. I posted this result directly after the test drive. But now, after having driven a few 100 miles since the install, and with my SuperChip still in the learn-process, the low end loss is now nil. After 10 mph, there is a huge gain.

This is a modification everyone should do. Well worth the rupees!

Smile Winder-

I did it over a year ago. I don't feel any low end torque loss and the mid to top is much better; mine is a 5.4L though. For all the people that put 3" cat-backs on without the 3" Y-pipe feeding them, WHY??? Your most forward restriction limits all things afterward; factory 2.5" Y-exit limits all rearward to the same.

Hard to say.
I put the 'Y" on last week & the shift kit this week.
I will say this my brother took the truck for a ride & when he got back told me to lower it because it was to fast for the height.
With all I have done in less than a year of owning it I have a hard time noticing differences in the performance.
I hope that made sense. LOL
For a 4x4 the thing runs like a RAPED APE!!!!

Joe T
PS: the tone of the exhaust is alot deeper & it sounds mean.. I LIKE IT!!!!

O.K. I'm convinced. Was it the 2 1/2 into 3" or the 2 1/4 into 3" one I need for the 2001 5.4L?

Smile Well...

...since I'm running straight pipe, and turn-down on top of that, I think I may have lost a little at very first take-off, but I can't tell as I went with an open-element air filter at the same time, and the temps. are near the 100's here lately. I'd definately do it again though!!!

Forgot to mention that my mileage has gone up from about 14mpg to a bit over 15mpg in town after the y-pipe installation.

Let's see... Sounds better, more power, better mileage, costs $100. Not too shabby!

no way...no loss in low end torque! when it first is installed, you will lose low end torque, however, when the computer catches up, watch out, the improvements all the way around are great, especially for the price!

Pics of Flowmaster Y installed

Veloci et al,

This is my first pics using my new digital camera and my first attempt at posting. The pics were taken laying on my back on the garage floor....so I had limited space and could not get one pic to show the overall system.

Any questions, please let me know.
