Question Need exhaust advice.

Okay I have stock manifolds factory cats a Borla muffler w/ dual exits. Right now the exhaust goes 4,2,1,2. I don't have the extra money for a full system swap so I'm buying one piece at a time. Until then I want more performance and sound. Should I keep the cats or go straight? If I go straight, how can I bypass the rear o2 sensors so my cel isn't on.

A couple of FYI's

1. Removing the cats will really not gain much power.
2. Even though you may be exempt from inspections, you are not exempt from the requirement to have them- even US Fish & Game Wardens carry a manual that identifies each vehicle and the required smog equipment, illegal engines changes, etc with pics of how to ID.
3. Any law enforcement officer (including fish & game), EPA inspector, etc. can impound the vehicle and cite it as a gross polluter
4. Once cited, a judge will decide if the vehicle is to be scrapped or returned to the owner- and you do not have any opportunity to speak in court- just required to sit & listen.
5. if the vehicle is returned- guess what, now you have to repair and take the vehicle to a federal referee station for the rest of "its life" for a smog inspection & test.

IMHO, it's not worth the risk versus the little gain.

why do you want to delete the cats?

and there's nothing wrong with keeping the stock exhaust until you save enough for what you want

I've alway's wondered why someone would remove a perfectly good cat prior to 100,000 miles? Especially on a vehicle that is (was) under a manufcturer's warranty.

The Fed's would have a field day if they found this website.

Save for a good exhaust system and leave the cat's intact. Replace the cat's with a hi-flow set if one goes bad.

Just my $.02

4,2,1,2 = exhaust exits from the engine in 4 pipes (headers) then into 2 pipes like the cats, then into one, then back into two. So its a Cat-back system.

that's a full exhaust, not a "cat back"

Sounds like a single in, dual out muffler. Maybe suggest a different muffler besides the borla? And it seems like it happens fairly regularly where people delete two of the 4 cats on the 04-05. Some make it sound like that's unheard of.

He says stock manifold and cats so I also would think he has a cat back setup now.

Cat back is when it comes from the cats into one pipe, then it has a y-pipe into one pipe. True dual is when it two pipes alll the way back.
