which exhaust..

I have a 2003 ford f150 5.4l. I was thinking about getting a cat back exhaust to get a little more gas mileage and maybe a few extra hp. They aren't cheap and I was wondering if its even worth the money to do it vs the results you get from it. Also its my daily driver so I wouldn't want anything real loud. Can anyone recommend any systems that won't make me deaf.

Do it for the sound and slight if any power bump. It won't improve mileage much if at all. If that is your main reason, wouldn't be worth it. Best thing is to buy muffler and tips online and then have a local shop bend the pipes and put it on for you. Single or dual exit, what are u looking for? The complete systems they sell are overpriced, you should easily be able to create one for around 250 or less for single exit.

well i want a deep but not real raspy sound cause i do a lot of highway driving and don't want a droning sound when cruising, and as far as the price go i might spend the 468$ for the magnaflow cat back that i was looking at. But i mostly just wanted it for a little more power and gas mileage but if no increase in gas mileage i might not do it cause my truck is only getting about 10mpg on highway which sucks lol. and i like the single outlet stock look.

i was looking at a maggie catback replacement with two tips exiting stock, but got bit by the bug and went a diffrent direction, 45'd tails and loud 4x14 magnapack.

personally with your mind set I would purchase a magnaflow muffler SI/DO and tips of choice, or a borla pro xs and have a shop fabb it up.....

suggestion

I recently installed a flow master 50 series single in dual out. It is great. No drone. I don't know about gas mileage and power but it sounds awesome when you get on it.

Most economical way is to cut out your stock muffler and install a borla pro xs and put a tip on the stock tail pipe......just a little extra pipe will be needed to make a filler piece for the difference in length of mufflers.....look at http://www.wickednicky.com/ for the borla pro xs.......

If your gas mileage is that bad, do a full tune-up if you have not already.

10 mpgs? We have the same truck and I get 13. You probably drive your truck hard. Borla Pro XS will be your best bet if you want something with a nice deep tone, no rasp, and limited drone. Just buy the muffler, have a shop add pipe and weld it together, and add a 3.5" tip. Super easy to do. No need to buy a $500 kit. Youll be spending double on what you will be spending if buy the muffler and have a shop weld it on.

I've changed the spark plugs a little over a year ago and just replaced the pcv valve today. What else does a full tune up entail because I could use the extra mpg's.

Deep, no rasp? Borla Pro XS. Replace you stock muffler and add a nice tip. Affordable, and should fit your taste.
