Gotts Mod Help
Gotts Mod Help
Ok guys I finally blacked out the lights but now I want to do the Gotts Mod. I was gonna go the route with the rubber down spout and Spectre tubing. Honestly I'm alittle nervous doing this mod cause I've read some mixed opinions on whether it's good for the motor cause it could throw a code or make the motor run lean. Am I safe and is my method good?
It is safe.
Been running it on mine for 7k miles now. with about a lot people on this forum running it. I think we would know by now if it wasn't safe.
If it makes your truck run lean and throw a code, guess what. its 100% fixable. just remove the Gotts mod and put your stock intake back on.
You will only be out like 15 bucks. Then go to Autozone and have them clear the code. Problem solved.

Thanks Stealth for the friendly advise but obviously you didn't read the part of my post that said I'VE READ some mixed opinions on whether it is safe and if my method was good or if there's a better one. Thanks poolboy that makes sense but would it throw a code if it runs lean or could it run lean without me knowing and do damage?
It can run lean without you knowing and throwing a code. However, it does not change the location of the MAF, so don't worry. Also you have an 07 which has a different style maf (round vs the 04-05 rectangle) which allows it to be moved without Ill effects. I run it too, you're fine
I excel at reading comprehension. Search some more like I do. Works for me, every single time.
If you're scared to do any mod you shouldn't do the mod.

Nervous is alittle different than scared and if you excel at reading then you would've notice I said alittle nervous. I think anyone that has half a brain would make sure a $15 mod doesn't screw up a $30,000 truck.
I think what Stealth is telling you in his "cutesy" way is that if you searched and read all the posts about the Gotts mod and were still nervous about doing it, then hearing again from the same people that it is safe, should not make you any less nervous.
BTW, it is totally safe and in fact recommended by Bill at PHP. If you did much reading, you already saw that, though.

OK, now you can add Jim's opinion to the 'safe' list. Feel any better now?
Like we've said this has been discussed almost ad nauseum and easily found using the advanced search feature, which I love.

just an idea
Gotts2BMe, that would make too much sense. TuckGuy24, thanks for the simple answer I was looking for. Does it matter whether or not you disconnect the battery? Sorry stealth if this was already discussed in another post but I have a life and can't sit on here all day looking for a simple answer I can get by just asking.
The oem software system is designed to adjust the fuel mixture up to 10%.......that’s more than enough to handle fuel mixture adjustments up to 7,000 foot elevation change! (for high elevations 8,000+ there are oem software programs for those specific applications) The 5.4 V8 for example if close to stock can only suck in a maximum of 480 cfm and a flat panel filter will flow 500 cfm, there is simply no way mine or Gotts mod can increase the air flow enough to exceed the ECM’s ability to adjust and maintain the correct fuel mixture.
TruckGuy24 and beechkid thanks alot, that is very helpful info. I'll be doing it as soon as I have time to go and pickup the Spectre tubing from Autozone. Hopefully I'll feel alittle bit of a difference with it.
