Question Exhaust dreaming...

Looking for thoughts from a setup I've been kicking around... This is all in preparation for a supercharger install...

True duals, 3" pipe

Dynatech LT Headers ~$850
High Flow Cats (x2) ~$??
Magnaflow X pipe ~$90
Dynomax 24219 (x2) for resonators ~$100
Flowmaster 50's (x2) ~$200

OR --

I stumbled across the Dynomax Ultraflo X (muffler + integrated X pipe) which would replace either the bullets and x pipe or the x pipe and flowmaster 50's.

Any thoughts?

Any ideas what this might sound like?

Sounds loud. If I were you though, I would look into Borla if you are going to spend that kind of money. They are supposed to go with the fords really well.

Loud is ok... i've got a mostly stock exhaust (std pipe, std "Y", 2 cats), plus a single 12" dynomax bullet runnning to a dual exhaust. It's got a nice throaty growl now... I would think either setup would be about the same volume (or maybe even quieter) as what I've got now.

i'm just not quite sure which setup would breath better..especially with forced induction

Get the catted Dynatechs, they are Magnaflow hi-flows.

Keep it X piped and REAL duals, with straight through mufflers. Borla Pro-XS!

Two borla mufflers would set me back $300 -- that's waaaay too much for a metal tube -- even if it is stainless, not to mention they're only listed as 2.5" I/O. I had the dynomax bullet on a previous project and I like the sound -- bonus: i've never had one rust out. For the 5.4, i'm thinking the longer the better to quiet it down -- hence the 24" model. About buying the dynomax catted version with the headers -- that actually adds another $600 to the pricetag "just to snag the cats off it". From Jegs, I can get 3" magnaflow hi-flows for less than $100/ea.

The more I think about it, the more i'm leaning towards the 2 bullets and the ultraflow x.

Headers -> Cats -> Ultraflow -> Bullets -> side exit

Problem is, I havent seen anyone with this setup.

you want a dynomax ultraflow and then 2 bullets? that doesnt make sense. choose 2 mufflers for true duals.

Headers ->cats -> CROSSOVER (H or X) ->Bullets -> Side exit.

The Ultraflow X is an X pipe as well as a muffler, pretty neat design IMHO -- the idea is to have the two "muffler" types in line to kill any drone there may be as well as have a straight through design through the whole system

Did a bit more research...unless i'm going to end up with a 700HP+ monster in the end (not likely) the 3" is not necessary (pretty much no backpressure, but wont have enough gas velocity to help scavenge) ... dual 2.5 tubing should be fine. Thoughts?

3" dual pipes only works on a blown motor. On a N/A motor, 2.5" duals max.
