Want a loud exhaust

I have a 2000 f150 with 5.4l v8. I want a loud, deep rumbling exhaust. i talked to a guy that specializes in exhaust and he said the best thing to do or what he would do is put a straight flowmaster out of the cat converter and turn it down before the axle with no muffler. But i have a few questions. How loud will this be? Is it legal to not have a muffler? Will not having a muffler be bad for my truck? Will i get pulled over for being to loud? Is turn downs gonna leave to much heat under my truck? if you have any answers or suggestions please feel free to add your oppinion. thanks

Replicate my exhaust. Louder than any Flowmaster.

Yes no muffler isn't very legal, in terms of passing inspection.

Your economy and low end power will go to hell without velocity from a muffler.

Johnny Law knows the sound of no mufflers, and too loud of exhaust very well. I have been followed a few times by him for noise and a suspicious looking truck I suppose.

First off, if you dump the exhaust under the truck it will be quieter outside the truck, and louder inside.. imo that blows.. flowmasters have a definite tendency to drone due to the fact that they are chambered mufflers. That being said many people like how they sound, personally I do not. Youtube is your friend, listen to a lot of different clips and decide which you like best. Running straight pipes will cause you to lose low end torque and yes, will be very loud.. I would suggest a straight through muffler design- magnaflow, borla etc.. But as you will soon learn exhaust is a personal taste! Many of us have exhaust clips in our signature, so roam around and figure out what you like..

Welcome to the forum!

Yes! This is what I have on my 2002 with stock 4 cats. True dual exhaust with bullets and big tips. Sounds good, but not super loud due to 4 cats.

do you want a deep clean sound? or raspy poppy throaty noise? (hint: magnaflow v. flowmaster...)

Sounds like your exhaust specialist needs to go back to exhaust school. Straight pipe flowmaster with dumps. You can't make this stuff up!

"straight flowmaster out of the cat converter and turn it down before the axle with no muffler"

That doesnt even make sense. And this guy wants to touch your truck?!

Back pressure is a big issue imo i can tell a difference in torque from when i was running open headers to welding high flow on to the collects. 1' exhaust.

Back pressure is a myth.

You need a good stretch of proper sized, smoothly bent pipe to gain velocity...

It will work like a syringe to pull the spent exhaust outta the system..

To big of a pipe, you lose your low end velocity
