Need Advice from the Big Boys
Need Advice from the Big Boys
Well Hello Everyone
this is probably my first official thread i will post here in this forum, with that said i have been busy doing my schooling and work and planning up my next mod on my lariat.
2008 F150 5.4L 4x4
DWV mod with spectre 3" tubing
nothing else exccept that dingy looking pipe after my tire.
My plans are to have the stock
Y-pipe cut out and replaced with a maggie y-pipe 2.5 duals/ 3"single ran into a 3"magnapack, then another y-pipe to transit into 2.54 dual tailes 45'd out the rear tires, just like the ever famous supercab darren has and shanks new exhaust setup on his FTX ( thank you fellas )...and the most important of all use stainless piping!!
Anyways since i have all parts and i am ready to install i started looking at shops around the greater miami area and have gone to two by my school.
One shop said he wanted $300 for aluminized piping, and he doesnt carry stainless
Shop number 2 said he'll do aluminized for 300 also, i said i want some sort of stainless, doesnt have to be pretty just for longetivity( i didnt go into details 'cuz i wasn't sure if the guy even knew the stainless grades) anyways he gives a call back number and i check with him and he says he can do t409 for $450 out the door for the entire setup...im not doin true duals but i felt it was bit way too steep for a full SI/DO setup from the "cats" back
Anyways im here in need of advice on what to do for the next couple of shops i walk into...i aint tryin to low ball but i want a decent price thatll benefit me and the guy working on my truck so EVERYBODYS a winner.
Any tips or ideas wel;come as how to approach these guys so they dont feel "threatened" to make a number up, afterall this is the ever first exhaust setup i am doin all alone.

I have close to 800 into my exhaust... si/do with 14 gauge piping and cats. It's so expensive here... I say do but that's based off of this area. My Maggie system was 550 back in 09 then last April 250 for cat work

Those prices are pretty high just for pipes, bending, and welding. If you're getting mandrel bends then I can see that price being a little more reasonable. It's still going to sound great. Check out some of 08FX4's videos to get an idea of the amazingness you will soon be experiencing.

i told the guy i wanted smooth bends, he may have jumped to the conclusion of mandrel but i dont know about that..afterall i cant wait!! u think it will have some WOT rasp ?
Wow, places want $300 for their piping and welds?? I do a full exhaust with a maggie knockoff for $210, stainless tips and all. They want $300 and you supply everything? I'm in western N.C, and don't know a single shop with mandrel benders, they are around $10,000 for a good model. If you are paying for the mandrel bends, you better be able to tell the difference. And just curious why would you take the time to cut the Y out and not go true duals?
