LT Headers into 3" SI/SO?

Hey guys,

It's been awhile! Hope all is well with everyone. I recently sprung an exhaust manifold leak on the pass. side. I have been doing some research and it seems LT headers are the way to go. I currently have OEM Y going into 3" pipe and then a 3" bullet si/so. Can i still install LTs? What do I need to make this work? Which LTs are recommended for the best gains/quality? Any assistance is appreciated as always!

Jeremiah

What year truck? What motor?

This is what I just installed on my truck and it wasnt too bad. They were pacesetter #70-2227 for a 97-03 5.4L 4X4.

This is how I ran them together. Personally I think 3" piping is too much on a N/A motor so I ran 2.5". Dont have alot of drive time on the setup so power wise not sure on an increase or decrease but it def. sounds better

Just do the GOTTS O2 mod on the rear o2's and you'll be set.

Hell I ran LT with no cats and true duals with an xpipe and two mufflers, then changed it to 1 muffler that was dual in dual out with internal xpipe all 2.5". I now have a Saleen exhaust set up that exits before the rear tires that goes into a aftermarket Y pipe single in and 2.5" dual out and I noticed no difference in power.

My supercharged truck notices no difference with any exhaust set up I've ever had.

I would hope that you had the original X pipe removed.

Yea

1) Stock exhaust
2) Added supercharger with true dual no mufflers with magnaflow x pipes 2.5"
3) Removed 2 of 4 cats and added dual 14" magnaflow center in center out
4) Added OBX long tube headers (zero cats now) (still had x pipe and 14" maggies)
5) Took out Xpipe and 14" maggies and put single 18" maggie with internal x pipe
6) Put in OBX Y pipe and Saleen Dual side exit exhaust (before rear tires) whole system is 2.5" as is.

As I went true dual same time as Supercharger I cant say an increase from going from single to dual. However going dual to single I honestly feel zero difference between it all.

i say if your happy with your 3" single exhaust at the moment then go for it. yes the LT's add more flow and wont be ideal but its a good start.

Will any low end torque be lost? I am happy with my current 3" si/so. I also have some high flow maggies still collecting dust in the attic that i never put in. Should i add these in as well?

i would definitely add the maggies to help with the back flow, sound and the chance of being legal.

at normal driving your not going to notice a difference but when you hit it, there will be a loss of torque but wont be horrific. it wont kill your power but 2.5 would be much better in a single n/a.

Thanks for the advice. With the addition of LTs, I definitely want to experience gains rather than a loss obviously. Would changing the OBX Y that comes with the Kit out with a Maggie Y help any? I currently have 3" running from the Y back. Any insight?

Im running the dynatech supermax kit with the long tubes and maggie cats and maggie SISO exhaust it it makes a crap ton of low end torque on top of all my other mods. And from everyone I have talked to said its the most quiet vehicle with headers they have driven in. Im sure it helps with that big azz muffler that is one there.
