I just got straight pipes put on my truck (not true duals but split with a y-pipe) and ever since then I can hear a rattle or spark knock in my engine when i accelerate. can straights cause this?

yes it does. I originally had 2.5 " pipes and thought it was a back pressure issue so i went back and got 2.25" pipes and it still the same. I recently bout a programmer too and when i use it, it just makes the noise get louder so i took the tune off for now

Straight pipes are useless on most vehicles unless it’s a drag car, race car, or forced induction engine (super charged or turbo charged). All a straight pipe does is rob your low end torque and make your truck obnoxiously loud.

the knocking sound happens on all f150s unless you replace the cams and cam limiters and all that stuff

will it hurt it? IDK
Will it run like ****? yes
Back pressure? myth. you need a properly equalized and flowing exhaust, velocity.

noise? probably just the 5.4L 3v rattle, its a cam phaser thingy.

yeah i have noticed some loss of power in the low range. but why does the noise get louder when i use my programmer? it sounds like somethin is about to rattle out the side of the motor when i run wide open

If I were you I wouldn't have touched the pipes.
Good lord its a 2010!
Maybe a muffler swap and a tip.
But these trucks sound throaty with stock exhaust.

Straight pipes sound awful.

I just don't understand why anyone would run straight pipes on something that isn't pumping out a ton of power...if you want loud, what's wrong with going with a straight-through muffler to clean the sound up?
