Ouch!

So I take it the dealership replaced the sensor an the truck is now fine?

Something must have got in there and fouled the MAF. Did you use any kind of lube putting the fittings together?

Final Update

No didn't use any kind of lube. Decided to hook the Volant back up since the dealership said there was no way it could have been caused by the CAI. Installed and everything works fine now. The volant sounds good when you punch it and definitely feel an increase in power but it does lose its "roar" before hitting the next gear. Since everything works now my only guess is that it had to have been the MAF that was bad. I just don't understand how it could be working fine one second then by coincidence stop working as soon as i got the intake on there. i would be disgusted if it was something i did by using too much force somewhere or anything but i just can't recall anytime that i did. Anyways thanks for the help guys, i appreciate it greatly.

Glad you got it figured out. The MAF is very fragile, a high tensil wire. Hope it runs well for you now.

Took it to two different dealerships and the consensus was the same. The MAF had gone bad. Could the Volant CAI have done this? At the dealership they said no way and that either the MAF was on its way out (unlikely coincidence in my mind) or that i mishandled it, but i was very careful with the MAF sensor the entire time because i had read they were fragile/sensitive. So now my Volant CAI is a glorified $900 (including today's services) paper weight.
Right , there isn't specs because air duct is sculptured. It isn't just one size. I'm not sure what to say about that. Except, Iduno?

Glad everything's fixed tho.

theedge evo is for stock engine and stock intake. If you want any cai then you need cutom tunes.

Confused

So can you run the Volant Cai without the custom tunes or no?

I personally would not run any CAI on any newer vehicle no-matter the make. So much sensitivity in MAF readings. Custom tuning wakes up any vehicle as it is, I would get the intake and install it with a custom tune ready to be loaded. Or be happy with a slightly modified stock intake and still get the custom tune.

I also "had" an edge evo.
Although i could never prove it, i had a throttle body burnout(fords terminology). In which i beleive was a direct effect of using edge's canned tunes with an intake.
So i removed the intake had no problems for months, all the while kicking my own *** for buying the intake. Until a few members on here turned me onto Bill @ powerhungryperformance.com. Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to push a product on you, nor am i trying to give you a whole sales pitch. But what i found out was that Bill can write custom tunes for the edge evo that will accomodate the volant intake aaaaand create better performance from the edge TOGETHER. Bill also said himself that intakes make little to no performance gains for the amount of money people spend on them.
So my advice ditch the volant intake. Your gonna have to eat the cost. and put what ever money you get from selling the volant into custom tunes. Hopefully you dont need a new throttle body like i did.
Good luck! and let us know your decisions and experiences.

you need to think of your engine as an air pump. If your 5.3 liter engine had the perfect cylinder heads, perfect camshaft, largest possible valves, perfect intake manifold, at 5200 RPM when it makes its maximum power, theoretically it can only flow about 486 CFM of air. I doubt you have these perfect engine components, so the engine flows considerably less, as much as 25% less. Realistically your engine flows more like 400 CFM. It's not as though you are feeding a big block V8 with a big Holley carburetor. So how much airflow do you really need? In addition, believe it or not, the factory engineers designed your stock air intake including the stock air filter to supply the engine with more than enough air. If the factory engineers wanted to restrict airflow for some strange reason, they would have simply installed a smaller throttle body.
