Removing rear leaf spring hanger bolt for install of exhaust hanger .

I need help.. I had a roush off raod on my 05. Thinking about putting it on my 2010. Only issue i have is the rear leaf spring hanger bolts is facing the opposite direction on the 2010. On the 05 i only had to remove the nut, put the roush hanger on the bolt and replace the nut. Now I have to pull the whole bolt out to mount the hanger.. any suggestions on how to do it?

Only way to take them out is to cut them off. All new leaf sets come with new bolts.

I dont think you understand which bolts im talking about. The shackle bolts can be removed no problem, i just have never done it in the drive and dont know how to go about.

I think your talking about the leaf spring pack bolts that hold the pack together. In which case i am wondering why anyone would want and / or need to attach a n exhaust hanger to that bolt?

Anyway anyone ever remove the shackle bolt and have suggestions for me?

Oh, I see ..... shackle bolts.

Jack up truck, rest frame on good jack stands. Might even help to remove wheels.

Loosen nut, remove nut even. Place jack under axle center, raise axle just enouggh to take weight off shackle bolt, no more.

I say do it in the center so it raises whole rear axle, not just one side as that way best chance the holes stay line up across both sides of the shackle. Doing one side twist the leaf and puts pressure on the shackle and bolt.

Remove bolt, do what you need, replace bolt, install nut, torque to spec..

If you have to "persuade it" some, use a brass drift or small punch on the center of the bolt, do not just bang the end with a BFH and ryuining the threads.

ok thanks, pretty much what i thought but wanted to get some feedback first.

If only the bolt was facing the way my 05 was it would take me two sec to mount the hangers.. damn it!!

Know exactly what you are saying! So does everyone else here who's done a lot of work on their vehicles, everyone has to learn.

But on the bright side, now you can turn them around!

Just be careful, use good jack stands, on a solid surface, and think hopw heavy that this will be if it falls on you. Not trying to scare you, just saying "be careful" and always stay safe.

In my career I've answered a couple of DOAs who were found under a vehicle which rolled off a rock propped under the frame or crushed an old cynder block.

very interesting that you are undertaking this swap. let us know how you make out with this since this is a system that was designed to fit up to 08's. any mods that you needed to make to the system to make it fit or if it just by sheer luck goes right in.
