Which magnaflow to go with?

Hey,

I'm looking for a new muffler, I currently have a Flowmaster Delta 50 and it's ok, but I'm looking for a deep throaty sound. I would like to try a magnaflow but I don't know which one to go with. I don't want alot of drone in the cab but an aggressive deep. throaty sound outside. Suggestions? I've seen some people say that the 11" round bodies sound good. I'm just looking for a muffler only. My truck is a 5.4L with 3" pipe (stock). Thanks for any help.

3" pipe is not stock. If your midpipe is 3" it has been upgraded.

Is your Flowmaster dual tailpiped? If so, Magnaflow 14" body.

If its single, change it with a Magnaflow 11" body.

Well, my tail pipe is 3" diameter, I measured before buying the flowmaster, I thought it was 3" all the way up (I'll have to check that). I have SI/SOand will probably go with the same set-up. How will the 11" maggie sound in relation to the flow 50 and flow 40? I found the 40 was a decent sound but too much drone in the cab, and the 50 is not aggressive enough. For the maggie, are we talking round body muffler or oval?

Thanks for your help guys!!

TampaWright, you wouldn't happen to have a sound clip would you? Round or oval body?

I take it that the smaller the muffler the more aggresive the sound (at least thats what the flowmasters are like)?

There are different levels of sound and volume with Magnaflow's. Oval mufflers tend to be more mellow and tame, while round bodies tend to be louder and more aggressive sounding. The shorter the muffler, the louder, but if you want more aggressive, you have to jump to round bodies. IMO the best sounding exhausts always have round body mufflers (Magnapacks, Bullets, XR1's).

^i totally second what 4.6 said just because youll probably go the NON-round route and then not be happy with the volume...id suggest you look into magnaflow magnapacks, dynomax bullets, or borla xr-1s, and keep it 3"s if thats what you have

This is what you need OP. You said deep, throaty, with out much drone? I think this is your best bet.

Thanks guys, I'll look into the round body maggies (maybe an 11" ??) and the Borla Pro XS.

Its hard finding sound clips for just a muffler install without the entire cat back system. This may be a dumb question, but I shouldn't lose bottom end power with these mufflers, right? A more free flowing muffler = more power, right?

I get drone even with the 18" oval.... slight, but it is there.... if you don't want drone you'd better get a 24" or stock

There will not be any low end loss.

I don't mind some drone, thats to be expected, but I found the flow 40 delta flow has quite a bit of drone, quite a bit more than the 50 delta flow.
