Low end torque loss with Magnaflow kits?
Low end torque loss with Magnaflow kits?
So I have been researching for a few weeks now and I am pretty sure I have decided on a Magnaflow system, 16523, for my 2010 Screw. With doing some searches I found the coupon code at hottexhaust.com and can get the system for $454. I feel this is a great price. I looked around and got some quotes for ordering mufflers and tips and having custom made systems, but they were all aluminized pipe and about the same price. So why not go with all stainless for that price? Anyway, my question / concern is this, I saw where some people feel there will be a low end torque loss with the 2.5" dual outlet muffler vs. 2.25" outlets. I don't want to lose any torque, as I pull a 30 ft travel trailer with my truck during the summer. Exactly how much torque loss are we talking here? How can Magnaflow claim HP and Torque gains if this is the case? I know the claims are minimal and I don't care, I just want a little rumble compared to the stock note. But I don't want to lose any power either. Any comments appreciated.
Here's the truck with my trailer hooked up, btw.

You will not lose any low end torque with this kit. The 2.5" vs 2.25" argument is for true duals, not a simple cat-back. You might gain a bit of power and torque, but the bottleneck will be the Y-pipe and intermediate pipe.
EDIT: You always lose power with chambered mufflers (Flowmaster, Cherry Bomb, Thrush) but never with straight-through mufflers (Magnaflow, Borla, Corsa, Bullets).

Awesome! That is the answer I wanted to hear. I think I am going to pull the trigger on this system.
x2. Unless you true dual, the stock 2.75" exhaust to a Magnaflow kit which runs 3" in, 2.5" out dual will be just fine.
You will not notice any performance increase since stock exhaust now is 2.75" mandrel bent and direct flowing muffler.

That's fine if I don't see any gains. I didn't want to lose any tho, and that was my concern. I really just want a little better exhaust note than stock.
i hope it works for you!! i got the same exhaust yesterday and was stoked to put it on, so i cut the exhaust off and start putting it on, and the hangers do not line up, and the pipes that go over the rear axle hit the truck bed. i wouldnt suggest getting this system personally.
Thanks. We enjoy it. I take it to a couple race weekends during the summer along with the normal holiday weekends. We usually take a weekend a month on top of those too. Camping lets me get my sanity back from the workweek.

Id be less worried about torque loss and more worried about drone with that huge trailer. Under stress the engine drone is far worse (like 3x louder) when I tow, and if the tips are straight out the back the sound will reflect off the trailer and be even louder. With the magnaflow it might not be too bad, but even with my Roush the drone is pretty loud when towing and it was unbearable with the flowmaster I previously had.
i put an email into them and they havent responded yet. it sux i have to work till saturday. im hoping they respond before then. i also used code "clubgp" on performancepeddler.com and i got it for about 425
