howd the stuck open injector happen
howd the stuck open injector happen
In 2005 Ford changed suppliers for the fuel injectors for the 2005 5.4 3v engine. They changed back in 2006. They got some bad ones spread in there only for the 2005 5.4 3v engines and extended the warranty coverage for all 2005 5.4 3v engines for the fuel injectors. One of mine stuck open and snapped a rod, and I got a new short block and one new fuel injector. I paid for the other 7 to be replaced, peace of mind. See my sig for the injector letter from Ford, if you're curious.
No issues with my 'Drop in K&N' either
I've had a K&N drop-in in my truck for over 80,000 miles and have never had one single problem with any of the old wives tales you read about on the web (and in this thread). Follow the cleaning and oiling instructions and you'll be fine.
I've more than saved on the cost in not having to purchase junk paper filters.

Thought I felt improvements with the K&N over the paper.
Haven't seen noticeable issues ever, from the first install thru both recharges.
Stealth's comments are the only reassuring ones in here.
Everyone else, you're making me paranoid.
I just did the GOTTS mod, and was planning to buy/remove the silencer (from a separate intake).
See if my truck actually did gain anything without the silencer.
Latest comments on removing the silencer say not worth the time.
No problem's with my K&N drop in either, have been using it for 6 yrs. Just clean, dry and don't over-oil every 10K miles. Have over 80k miles on it and never had to clean the MAF either. Engine still ides great even with the stock plug's still in and also get's up to 18mpg hwy. If it ain't broke don't fix it, just maintain it!
