FLOWMASTER 40 Not loud enough?? WTF!?

Just put a flowmaster 40 series on my truck last night 2001 5.4L... And it sound BAAARELY louder than my stock exhaust. WTF? its a 2.5 inlet and outlet single pipe setup with about 28" off pipe after the muffler. Anyone have any tricks to make it louder?

Swap all the cats out for a pair of Magnaflow 94106 cats, or bigger tips. The first is the best.

Flowmaster 10 series I had a delta flow 40 on mine and it had a nice tone but not loud enough so I went with a 10 series sounds more raspy and aggressive and is louder

Singles aren't nearly as loud as duals... if you want it louder I'd go with a SI/DO muffler or with a smaller muffler like a Dynomax Bullet or race series muffler.

Right on the money. '97 - '03 are the quietest V8 trucks because of the 4 cat systems.

Yeah obviously if you have 4 cats on it stock then its going to be really quite, also I noticed that the 40 series delta flows are pretty quite than the other 40 series such as Super 40 or Original 40s.. my buddy put one on his old project 91 Fullsize Chevy with gutted cats and single outlet dumped and it was surprisingly more quite than expected. That along with the combination of 4 cats could be your issue.

Just go have two cats taken off, if emissions are required in your area then take off the larger ones, and leave the smaller ones on.

BK: I like the Series 40 for it's low restriction operation, but I hear your complaint. I'm not sure of your vehicle's configuration, but you can move your muffler further back onto the exhaust system. Mostly mounting it behind the differential axle, and replacing the tail out pipe. I'm not going to go into the theory, but that would give you a "throatier" tone. That would be all you would need to do.
It is a disadvantage for me to do such on a Expedition because of the placement of the spare, and other factors.
I don't want too much drone in the interior, but you might like it if you have essentially a flat-bed pick up.

BTW: I like the 2.5" dia. single tube I/O system.
