mkandrell Bent?
I have a magnaflow 12288 18" SIDO muffler. 3" in 2.5" out. I had the muffler put on last June. The place that did the work did not mandrel bend the pipes and used pre-bent 2-1/4" pipe on the tail pipes. I don't like the way it’s done but it sounds good. I have found a new shop that mandrel bends their own pipe. Performance wise, Is it worth having the exhaust system redone using my current muffler and 2-1/2 tail pipes in the same configuration? I tried searching but I am having trouble with the search function. Thanks!

For anyone to give a helpful answer, you need to give a bit more info on the system. Is it 3" AFTER the y or did you have a better flowing (like the magnaflow) y with a 3" outlet put on? You said they used pre-bent tails, were they mandrel bent? I could see how the tails could be restrictive if not mandrel bent at only 2.25, but if you have the factory y it's prolly a bigger bottleneck. Unless you want it louder the dual 2.25 flow as much as the 3" single so its prolly not worth it. But of course it all depends on the details we don't know about the setup.
Only if its rusting out I would change it. If its crimp bent, well the flow path will be mildly interupted, but still not enough to change out to 2.5" mandrel tails unless you have the money to throw around.
Sparko: It has the stock Y. They just cut the old muffler off and welded the Magnaflow muffler on.
Darren: That was what I was thinking. I may have it redone some day but I am in no hurry
