no muffler vs. muffler

So im kind of in a dilemma here guys so help me out. I lovvveeee the sound of my truck when i had it dumped, no muffler. The problem is that it was dumped so there was very much drone in the cab, especially when i tow (which i do quite a bit). It also just seemed veryyyy sluggish. Like there was night and day difference when i had it run through my muffler. My quiestion is basically why is this so? I love the sound of no muffler, but with all the towing i do its justt a pig! If i took my muffler out and just ran a y pipe would that be any different? i want to keep the "no muffler" sound.

The muffler, or lack of muffler didn't hurt you performance, dumping it under the cab did. Run a piece of pipe from the Y-pipe to the OEM exit, or dump it past the axles.

no, cut off the muffler and run pipe from that to the rear. Your having one piece of pipe running from the stock Y pipe (which is before the muffler) to the rear of the truck.

Why does dumping the exhaust under th cab hurt the performance vs. dumping it over the rear axle??

Cut out the stock Y and run a magnaflow 2.5" into 3" Y and run single 3" back to stock exit with a nice tip. Cheap and it'll sound beastly.

Then you should wait til you have more money. No need to go the cheap route that you will go back and redo later.

Do you have a muffler on your truck right now?

Well it's a SIDO and you have stock cats. Just swap the muffler out with a Y-pipe and you can have your straight-pipe sound and still retain your torque.
