Keep your clamps tight
Keep your clamps tight
A friendly reminder for all those that have bolt on cat backs. Don't learn the hard way like me
. Got home and one of my tips was almost on the ground. Quick check underneath and saw that the hanger had become dislodged from the hanger bracket. Figured it would take ten minutes to fix but when I got underneath it all of them had become dislodged because the muffler had become dislodged from the intermediate pipe. What's funny is that I had just come back from my exhaust guy trying to get my muffler swapped out. Too backed up and didn't want to wait.
Stupid bolt on cat backs.

Because an exhaust that can be swapped out later is beneficial for some people, I myself am planning to get my exhaust full bolt in with custom flanges, and three different sets of mufflers to interchange to at my leisure, loud, mild, and highway calm.
I thought I had it. When I put it on I was actually worried I over torqued it.
That's why I never had it welded. The ability to swap out the muffler which is what I will be doing in the next few days. Provided we don't get anothe blizzard.
This did help me in one way. I was thinking that my inlet was 3" but it is 3.5". I going to have to neck down the intermediate pipe to fit the Flowmaster's 3" inlet. That or get a new intermediate pipe.

I'm definitely going to do something about the intermediate. So far the longest I've found is 44" and I need one about a foot longer because I want to keep the MBRP 2.5" piping which means that the outlet location needs to remain the same.
I've had it planned for awhile, just dont have the money to do it

im guilty of this too.......but it was only with 3 differnt mufflers the frist 2 ment nothing to me!!!
but yes i to have learned this the hard way... ran over my passenger side 3" bullet twice!!! NEVER EVER by the band clamps. they dont work!

I would change it to 3" with an unrestricted Y pipe but I doubt you are willing to put out the extra money for that, for a stainless intermediate pipe in 3" being near $60, then another $28 for the Y pipe, its nearly a whole new exhaust, but it would perform better than MBRPs 3.5". I dont care what MBRP states, 3.5" single is too big to run healthy, just like us with 2.5" true duals, its too thick of an exhaust to run.
Got my answer while searching for something else.
Y-pipe
You are saying to cut the factory Y and weld in the unrestricted to replace it.
Correct me if I am wrong on this. Mufflers, Y pipes, etc. are stated in I.D. Tubing is O.D. Brain isn't functioning well today.
