Airaid Intake

Just put a semi used, great condition Airaid Classic into my '98 4.6 extended cab F150. Having never really been that knowledgeable with hands on truck stuff, had a quick question. My check engine light is on and it is for the air intake temperature sensor. My question is whether this sensor is really that important considering theres no sensor receiver on the intake itself. If this is the case is there anyway to remove the check engine light permanently. thanks for your help

On the late model trucks, your PCM needs to be tuned for the intake. I have an Airaid. They're pretty good.

Have you tried unplugging your battery, I had the same thing on my last truck and I disconnected the battery, held the terminals together and the code went away.

I have not tried disconnecting the battery, ill give that a shot.
What do you mean by PCM being tuned? Im guessing thats the trucks computer but do I have to use an aftermarket tuner or would any shop have something that would work? I plan on getting a tuner eventually but dont have the funds right now and I would like to be able to use my CAI

Exclamation Stop !!!

Somethin' is very wrong here ...

The stock intake on that engine has a grommeted hole to accept that IAT sensor.

If this 'new' intake does not for some inexplicable reason ( Are. You. Sure?), then remove it immediately, and put the stock unit back on until such time as you can properly retrofit the IAT in as near a 'stock' location as possible.

You CANNOT run without a functioning IAT! This provides Crucial data to the PCM for the engine to run safely. Fuel injector duty-cycle, timing advance, etc depend on this sensor being present, active & accurate.

Turning 'off' the CEL is not the answer.

IF/when you get it configured correctly, you should not need a tune, since the stock MAF venturi remains intact.

FYI - On 04+ F150's the slot-style MAF also incorporated the IAT, so a separate sensor was not needed.

EDIT - Here is the install instruction sheet - NOTE STEP /PIX # 11 - it CLEARLY shows the IAT (they call it an AIT, d'oh, lol) and where it goes. ==> http://www.airaid.com/InstallationPDF/400-109.pdf

Also NOTE: the First & Last Steps in the guide clearly indicate to Disconnect. The. Battery. / Reconnect. The. Battery.

RTFM, perhaps?

BTW - it's not some El Crappola knockoff intake from TurdBay is it?

No its definitely a legit Airaid system. I must've missed the whole AIT grommet slot space. Im gonna go check and put it in. I don't know how i must've missed that step. Thanks for the help

Did you clear the KAM (keep-alive-memory) in the PCM by disconnecting the battery (and turning on yer headlites to drain residual charge).

Check the condition of that IAT - if it was rattling around lose in yer truck while you were driving, who knows what happened to it - it's kinda fragile, .

ALSO - Check the wiring harness for the IAT & the MAF. Also check for airleaks - go over the entire install - just follow those instructons to the letter.

BTW - did you clean the MAF while you were in there? Would have been agood time to do so ...

Post back those codes.

Good luck.
