superduty exhaust

i called an exhaust shop today, tryin to get it lined up for when i get home.

he said that i didnt really need hi- flow cats. and that the x pipe wont fit under my superduty. said he could run "true duals" from my crossover pipe.

550 bucks for the "cat back true duals" which include 2 flowmast 40 series mufflers, 1 on each side, and 2 7.5 inch dual walled polished SS tips. and it will be aluminized pipe.

i should be able to get the Pacesetter quick trip headers for around 300-400

any thoughts?

this is a 5.4 right?

everything sounds good...im just still not sure how he is gonna run true duals off of a Y pipe. you need either a X or H pipe on there

and you MAY want to get bigger tips...
how are you gonna run the tips out?

First, get a plan YOU want, dont let a shop guy suggest something thats not as good to run as your original plan, just so it will be easier work for him.

Second, the stock Y pipe is restrictive to the left bank, even on the Super Dutys with the 3" in/out Y pipes. Run 2.5" pipes off from where the original Y was, then ti a 2.5" in/out Magnaflow X pipe, and 2.5" throughout.

If you like the tone of the 40s, go ahead with them, they do sound good on the Super Duty 5.4s.

I would run 18" long tips, whether straight out or 45'd, 18" length just look better on trucks, especially the Super Duty trucks with the higher rear end.

Theres a hell of alot of space underneith a Super Duty, a 12" wide X pipe will for sure fit. Take a tape measurer and go find out yourself. Your exhaust installer doesn't think you're trying to run a center body X pipe kit does he? Such as a Mustang X pipe? If thats what hes thinking, 1, he hasn't done alot of truck exhausts, 2, tell him it needs to run like the stock setup on the passenger side.

I wish I had the Magnaflow X pipe, I may save up for it and get one installed later after I change my mufflers to the new ones, but then I would need to get my left bank pipe re-bent, and if i'm going to do that, might as well convert to 2.25", so I dont know, debate debate debate

It doesn't matter, but stainless will last much longer. It all depends on how unforgiving your winters are with road salt.

And the cats will increase the sound alot. You can always get the chugmasters on, then go and if its not loud enough order some cats and have them put in. Chambered mufflers dont break in so there will not be a break in time.

im stationed down in Tampa, FL, at MacDill AFB. NO WINTER. I love it. I suppose it cant hurt to wait on cats. I want to get my exhaust done somewhere before i get home from afghanistan, but i dont think its goin to happen.

cant find a damn shop who 1) will do the headers and exhaust, and 2) when ur deployed, your money must not seem like a viable source of income.

i dunno why

on my superduty van ,5.4 my ss dual exhaust with x pipe in 2.25" and mandrell bends - blows away the stock 3" siso setup our trucks came with-the reasons superduty 5.4's came with 3" siso vs 2.5" siso was to keep egts down as these were designed as work trucks-now u running 2.5" duals on a heavy *** superduty, will eliminate all your bottom end-but hey-it's ure truck
