High-Flow Cat Question

New to the board, and sorry if it's been asked before, but...

My driver side cat sounds like it's crapping out on me. I checked the heat shield to see if that was making the rattling, but no dice. I was just curious about the fit of a Magnaflow high-flow cat. The cats on now look like there are two sections to each side, and I was wondering if the one section on the high-flows makes up for both, or do I leave the front one on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. If it matters, it's a '99 V8 5.4L.

alright well if you want an easy do it yourself bolt on installation the magnaflow direct fit is good.

this is what the driver side one looks like. magnaflow part #23976

this will run about $234...http://banditexhaust.com/catalog/pro...oducts_id=1011

the other option would be to buy a universal converter and have a shop cut out your current one and weld in the new one. this would probably be the cheaper option.

performance-curve.com has universal cats as low as $36 for there thunderbolt ones

both options are fine its your call.

Buy some universal fit Magnaflow 94306 or 94106 if you want a real loud sound, have them put inplace of where your rear cat was and replace the front cats. Re-mount the rear O2 after the new cats. $200 tops to have this done, vs $600 for their direct replacement kit.

If I purchase the universal fit cats will I have to have welding done? Are there aftermarket alternatives for the front cats, or just an OEM part? Would there be any performance gains with either choice, the direct fit vs the rear universals?

Thanks for all the help already, I just want to be sure I make the right decision for me.

Yes you will need welding and pipe bending done. Aftermarket hi-flow cats will flow better and resonate much less sound.

Is there an aftermarket solution to the front cats, or is it just an oem part?
