emissions

I have an 04 f150. I am getting approx 11 mpg on the highway. What are the consequences if I gut my cat? Are there any other emissions that i can remove to help improve my mpg?

you might get a check engine light which will cause a failed inspection if its on. idk wwhy youre only gettin 11. check your tire pressure and re-grease your bearings. also true dual exhaust and a cold air intake will help increase mpg's...not a ton but it will go up. also a tuner.

i have aftermarket exhaust, and a cold air intake. tire pressure is where it should be. i just had the pos truck serviced and had them grease everything. think a pound of c4 will solve my problem?

An 04 getting 11mpg? Thats pretty bad, there must be something wrong within the engine. There are guys with 35s and 6" lifts regeared and still retain 13 - 16mpg average.

Have you changed spark plugs? Try any fuel injector cleaner?

If you gut your cat and leave the interior space open it will hurt your performance and fuel mileage even more. Replace the cats with pipe, or cut them open and have pipe ran through them to retain proper velocity pressure and you will be ok, not legally, but it will flow right.

I have had all injectors pulled out and cleaned. spark plugs are fine. I have had my truck in 4 different ford shops and they can not tell me what is wrong. One shop had a diagnostic reader hooked to my computer while they were driving, and it showed that my truck wasnt running at full, but they couldnt say what was wrong.

If you take them cats out you must tune for the proper fuel/air ratio, or gas mileage will go down.

The more corn in fuel = worse mpg.

^ Could be. They may have clogged up years ago.

^ Trying out your style Av

It is a possibility, but these newer cats should not be clogging our burning out yet. They should last much longer than the older cats older trucks came provided with, but hey, with an improper fuel ratio and a rich running engine, catalyst failure is a possibility, though the engine light would illuminate indication the error.
