exhaust modification questions

hi there. i have a 08 V6 f150 that has a 2.75" exhaust. i have been wanting to split mine after the rear axle and make it duals after that point. the stock muffler sounds pretty good on it so i want to keep it on the truck. most mufflers on the V6 sound bad so there is almost no point in buying a new muffler. but the tips i want to use are 2.5" so somewhere along the line i must shrink the exhaust size to 2.5". anybody know if this will hurt anything? i will be cutting off the last 1-1.5ft of the exhaust and making a Y and running the two pipes out of the back and my tips are a 2.5" inlet but split to duals. so it will look like 4 pipes coming out of the back. but will shrinking the exhaust from 2.75 down to 2.5" hurt anything, is my main question. thanks

put a 3" inlet Super 44 muffler inplace of your muffler with dual 2.5" tailpipes, you'll be set & sound decent.

Our motors are not that bad sounding, trust me once your done your going to want a new muffler. If your going to do it, do it right. Get a SI/DO muffler insted of a Y after the stock muffler.

I suggest that you keep your original plans of just running a Y-pipe after your stock muffler. Save people the agony of hearing that V6.

lol, ive actually had a few people come up to me and tell me it sounded pretty good. i dont wanna spend a bunch of money on this stuff and i already bought an adaptor for the 2.75-2.5 squeeze. i already pretty much like the sound it has(for now) but pretty much just want it for looks. will making the exhaust go from 2.75 down to 2.5 hurt anything? OR am i able to get the tips' inlet flared out to fit over or just inside my stock exhaust? it is stainless steel. dont know enough about metal to know if i can do this. if i can, my buddy will make a Y out of 2.75 inch piping so i can keep my 2.75" all the way.
so again questions are, 2.75 to 2.5 inch...BAD or GOOD and is a stainless steel tip's inlet able to be stretched or flared to go from 2.5 to 2.75 or close to it?

downsizing to a pipe size to a thinner pipe keeping it single is never really good, but since its the tip it should be fine
