Newb Exhaust Question

I read that big ole exhaust thread, and figured out somethings. Apparently most of you think you should just buy the muffler and weld it on. Here is my question.

I want a muffler that gives little to no cab drone at 65-80. Good deep tone under throttle, no loud raspy rattle can cheap *** sounding fart can rice burner sound. This is a commuter/daily driver, so minimal MPG loss. I'm new to Fords. I don't know/haven't learned yet about cats, dumped, etc. Dont want to remove cats if that triggers the check engine light.

If there is a complete system out there that accomplishes this, let me know. If not, I would hear your muffler suggestions, and apologize for the newb question.

magnaflow sounds like it would suit you. 22" is pretty much stock. 18" is a little louder than stock, and 14" is a nice sounding muffler. nice and deep. minimal- no drone on the highway. search youtube and make sure thats what you want. Next you have to figure out how you want it to exit. You can either do a SISO (Single in, single out) 3" muffler, which youll want to change the piping from the Y pipe back to 3", for the best performance gain. With this system, i would suggest putting the tip out the back behind the rear tire at a 45 degree angle. Putting the muffler as far back as possible, under the bed, will cut down on any drone you might have. Your next option is to get a SIDO (single in, dual out) The only difference between this and the SISO is the outlet. It is 2.5" vs 3" and allows you to have 2 pipes coming out of your truck. With this setup, you will run 3" from the Y into the muffler, and 2.5" out, running it out the back both side behind each rear tire at a 45 degree angle is a very nice set up. Putting at least a 3.5" or 4" tip on each side will look very nice. You can order the muffler and tip(s) online through many vendors (summit racing, performance peddler, ebay, amazon, jegs) and have a shop weld everything together. Make sure they shop uses mandrel bent piping, not cheap crimped bends. the whole setup should cost you about $300-400 depending on which route you go. another option for you is to change your cats out for high flows, but that will make the exhaust louder. I would suggest taking some time and searching youtube and checking out the 14" magnaflow and seeing if thats what you like. anymore questions, holler. good luck

Thanks for the info. I'm listening to all the youtube links in that big exhaust thread right now. I'll post up my other questions here. Thanks for the quick and informative response.

You want the Magnaflow 18" body. Do you want dual tailpipes?

Then SISO 3" 18" magnaflow will be pretty good for you. I would go with the round body instead of the oval. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MPE-12649/

As long as your engine is a V8, V6 I wouldn't even bother with it.
