performance and mileage

Here goes not haveing to much sucsess with the mods I have been puting my hard earned money into. Went with the flow master 3" set up 50 series suv lost mileage and had to keep giving accelerator pedal input to keep it from falling off 65 mph? It also has a k&n fipk kit and I lost about 2mpg So I went to a magna flow 2.5 18 X5 oval for some back presure 2008 ford f 150 5.4 now it is the same or I loose 1.5 mpg wtf I bought this stuff because I wanted more mpg and performance. I know how heavey is the foot I would get 16 or 17 with the stock intake and muffler what I really want is more mpg and not all out performance just towing performance. I have talked to both tech lines flowmaster and magna flow they both say 3" flow master for me sucked at least the magnaflow is a little bit more quiet should I go with the magnaflow 3" the muffler guy says it is the same as the 3' flowmaster ?????????????????

x2, you are modified without having the modifications tuned in, so you are not getting the benefits of the parts you put in, mainly that intake.

The Magnaflow will perform better than the Flowmaster because its straight through, and not restrictive chambers.

PHP Gryphon, or VMP programmers. Tell them what mods you have and what fuel settings you want, and they will email you the custom tunes and send you the programmer itself.

x4.. i bought CAI and exhaust and it did absolutely nothing for me but i plugged my friends programmer into it just to see what happens since we have the same mods and the gains were insane... i just used it for like a few hours but now im getting one from VMP Tunes now that i know what kind of gains i can get out of it.. he also gets 4 MPG more than i do

and i have 35" tires and he has 37" tires..

as I told you guys this is all new to me before exhaust and fipk kit and I was good to go. I know I can look them up on the net, but I know what I have done to the truck but not sure what to tell them on the tune IE fuel mix trans shift points. I see those programers advertised here on the site. I would like to raise the speed limiter, change tire size and gain performance. I do not want just wide open performance because i will tow for 6 months of the year to the river in colorado. Rather get slammed by you guys than a manufacture that sets me up with the wrong thing + I will be out my hard earned dollars.

Don't worry about fuel mixtures and what not. That is their problem.

Tell them what modifications you have done to your truck, and tell them that you want a tow tune and 93/87 performance tune.

I would try PHP (Power Hungry Performance). They seem to have a fairly quick turn around time and they support this site alot. Of course you can always look into VMP and Troyer too.

Custom tuning will net you more power and more MPG. Its the only mod that really can do that.

#1 - you didn't explain your exhaust set up only a 3" muffler which you claimed sucked so I am assuming you upsized your pipe from the muffler back????

#2 - you modded a 3 valve motors intake without a custom tune (so you're playing with fire)

#3 - you didn't state your tire size or gears

#4 - any additional mods and how do you drive your truck??????

I had a 3" cat back with 373 gears 65 to 70 on the freeway not heavy footed. What I was told by magnaflow is the the 5.4 needs back presure so I went to the 2.5 muffler with 3inch in and out tubing. The muffler shop just flared the ends on the 2.5 muffler it is way more responsive than the 3" flowmaster but I am loosing gas mileage about 2.5 mpg. I dont get it, it also has a k&n fipk kit, from what i have read it needs a aftermarket tuner. After that is installed I will probably be able to go back to the 3" magnaflow. At this point every mod that I have made is a step in the wrong direction. It sucks because this all was installed after I spoke to each tech department about there product and this is what they recomended nothing about a aftermarket tuner to make it work right together. Oh well life sucks then you die

I feel like I'm talking to a wall.

CUSTOM TUNES!

Without them, you are not progressing. If the computer does not know your mods and how they perform, it cannot compensate and give you the full benefits.

The custom tunes will be your best bet to dial it all in perfectly. You will be very happy in the long run, especially with the PHP Gryphon.
