That does sound like the specifications of a 40, it must be upside down. If you dont care how the muffler looks, you should paint the inlet/outlet walls to try to find the part # easier. All Flowmasters have them etched in on either the inlet, or outlet walls.

Quit ***** footing around ! You want loud right. Put on a set of long tube headers and tell the muffler guy, you don't want any stinking exhaust pipes!
Just run the dumps open all the time, this should suffice to make it plenty loud!
Now, if a cop pull up next to you, you'll have to leave the light at idle speed, but that is just one of the small sacrifices you have to make to hear it real loud! Pulling a trailer is another matter. You will need lots of cotton ***** stuffed in your eardrums to adsorb the blood that will eventually run out of the damaged ear drums and canals. But these are the small sacrifices that have to be made if you want your truck to sound manly ! Also you might look on E-Bay for ear protectors, you'll need these because of all screaming from your sissy neighbors. I bet there trucks don't sound manly!

Okay, I'm bringing this one back from the dead.

Just to recap quickly, I have went through every possibility. My current setup is stock cats with SI/DO Flowmaster 40. I love it, but can't stand the highway and under load drone.

At the time I considered no muffler, which I don't want to do, or high-flow cats, which I don't want the truck extremely loud. From what I read opening up the exhaust flow should help with the drone, and apparently Flowmaster is good for the drone. I'm not brand loyal so I'm not opposed to changing to another brand. I guess I just want a nice deep aggressive exhaust without the drone or with reduced drone if that's possible.

So I wanted everyone's personal and/or professional opinion on what muffler setup I could do to make that happen. As far as changing from si/do to two si/so I'm not opposed to that either.

@ 1800-2000 rpms (60-70 highway speed and up grades at low speeds) is the worst drone range for the Bullets. It's the main reason I am strongly thinking of pulling them out. They are nice everywhere and I love the aggressiveness, but it's difficult to hold a conversation sometimes in those scenarios. I love hiking in WNC so driving up through the mountains is brutal.

Maybe with a trailer attached the rpms would be out of the drone-range, but I can't say for sure. I'm guessing that you drive more without a trailer, though, so drone would be worse than the Flows for that.

Trailer towing is gonna exacerbate any existing drone unless you opt out of OD - then you'll be past most of it. But it'll drone like a bastige while yer going through that rpm range under load

Have you guys seen this? https://www.f150online.com/forums/ex...solutions.html

^ A candidate fer Emperor II's compendium

This platform definitely possesses natural resonance in the 1,800-2,200 rpm range regardless of exhaust type - some just suppress it more effectively than others.

Well I understand that it's probably going to be hard to get away from the drone all together, and especially while towing. I don't mind a little drone, but sometime it seems a little overly loud. I know flowmaster is pretty bad about the highway and load drone, so I was asking for suggestions on a muffler that would help cut down on this and keep the aggressive tone.

It's no so much that I want the exhaust loud at slow speeds and completely quite during highway. Hearing the exhaust while cruising down the road doesn't bother me so much, its just the volume that seems exceedingly loud at times. Maybe I'm asking for to much and should either stick with my flows (which I love the sound of, but would like to make a little louder at lower speeds) or just deal with the highway noise and upgrade to a louder exhaust.

14" maggie si/do 12198 with 2 maggie 34106's sounds awesome to me. Low rumble at cruise and quite loud if I put the pedal down. It is amazing how loud this combo gets but it has a nice drone for me on the highway. You are gonna pay a price bud. My set-up is loud when I want it to be and def has a fairly loud cruise, but a chambered muffler will almost always be louder at cruise and drone more. Something is gonna have to give to get something else, ya know?

If you really wanted to eliminate the drone then you could do a Corsa system, every one I have heard has had absolutely no drone and they sound really good. They are not overly loud and are whisper quiet at cruising but sound great when you get on it. They are very expensive, however, so it may or may not be worth it to you.
