2.5" midpipe to 3" make it louder?

hey guys, i am running obx lt's, maggie high flows into a magnaflow 15749 kit bent out the sides. and am wondering if going from the 2.5" midipipe it has on it now to a 3" will make it louder? right now it is actually a little louder than i want, and was thinking about going to a bigger magnaflow muffler.(like a 22", the kit has an 18" on it), so i guess my full on question is, if i do the 3" midpipe to a magnaflow 12588(22" long 5x11 oval 3" in dual 2.5" out) muffler, will it be a little quieter?, about the same?

thanks in advance guys!

if you change all the piping from the Y back to 3", youll get the best sound and best performance out of a SISO system. changing from an 18 to a 22 magnaflow will cut down on the volume, but not a tremendous amount. thats 4" more that the exhaust has to flow through

from what i have read a single 3" for si/so is the way to go, but i love dual tailpipes.....and dont really know if i wanna go to a true dual system. so i kinda want to stick with a si/do, so will goin from a 2.5" the 3" pipe from the y to the muffler change anything? if so thats the way it looks like im goin. and prob a 22" maggie, just to tone it down a bit.

having 3" from the Y to dual 2.5" pipes, vs 2.5" from the Y to dual 2.5" will be vertually the same.

you could always get a y-pipe welded on after your muffler if you get a si/so so you could still run dual tail pipes.

i already have a si/do on it, just with a 2.5 mid. was wondering if it was worth the $ to go to the 3" for sound and performance, but so far, looks like a no.....

if you are just changing it to 3" from the y-pipe to your muffler it really isnt worth it. doubt you will notice it. if you run 3" from the y-pipe into a 3" si/so straight through muffler and continue the 3" out to the tip it would be worth it.

Your fine SI/DO, the performance difference is very very minor, but the sound is deeper with the 3" intermediate and flow is a little healthier.

Just noting that if you were refering to say a Magnaflow SI/DO or Borla SI/DO, they are already Y pipes, just with a case wrapped around them and packing so going with a Magnaflow SI/SO with a Y pipe behind it will perform no differently than a Magnaflow SI/DO.
