New truck...New Exhaust

I got an 08 F150. it has the 5.4 in it. I am thinkin about takin the cats out gettin an H pipe and runnin 2 flowmaster 10 series mufflers. My main question is when you take out the cats on the fords will it kill the power? I have had a Z71 with true dual striaghts so dont say it will be too loud. it had no mufflers or cats. so i wanna a deep tone so i figured i would go with the flows. i definatley do not like magnaflow. either flow master cherry bomb or flo pro. what do yall think?

Yes you will lose some low end torque.

Wow! You are psychic. Nah,you knew everyone was going to say it was going to be too loud huh? That is what I thought untill you said don't say that. Well, you definitely need to remove the rear cats and replace with hi flow cats,(4 on these trucks), to get some sound you are use to with the Chevy. Without the cats you do lose some power from what I understand some have said. Chevys are so much louder than the Fords due to our extra cats. I have read on here the hi flow cats make it twice as loud as the stocks! You might want to go with straights just to get close to the loudness of a Chevy with a muffler if you keep the factory cats though. I have a Cherry Bomb extreme which is one chamber like the Flowmaster 10 series. I have it single in dual out side exit in front of tire and I think it is about as loud as possible with the factory cats. I need to switch them!

haha yeah a lot of people used to tell me that so i just get it out of the way up front and say i like it loud. now if i got an edge programmer and cold air intake and a whole new throttle body would this compensate for the lack of no cats?? i just wanna have that nasty tone without the cats and the single chamber mufflers. and as long as i keep enough power to turn the tires offroad and on the road i could careless about speed lol

For some reason, everyone I talk to thinks Flowmaster is the best sounding and best performing muffler. These are the same people who think Super Chips and Jet chips are the lastest and greatest, sad really.

I have a Roush side exit . I am not sure if it will be loud enough for you but, it has a really deep tone. It is louder than Flowmasters with catback install. It is too loud for my taste but, the performance is great. Not too loud to go back to stock, though.
Also, Roush makes an off road version that is louder than the legal version that I have. This might give you quality loud more than just quanity loud.

Can you say- "Impound & Crush"! Since our previous prez signed a couple of new regs that have been in effect now for a few years, if you remove the cats as you are talking about, guess what....any local, state or federal police/law enforcement officer or AQMD or even state/federal forestry (they are cops as well) can and has the authority to red tag your vehicle, impound it, and you have to go befor a judge where they & they only will decide if the vehicle is to be "crushed"- and you win paying all the bills!

Ask the ricers- they have 1st hand knowledge of this!

well i dont think that flowmaster is the best sound but its between the single chamber cherry bomb extreme which i have had previously and the single chamber ten series flowmaster. i personally do not like magnaflow but i can see a lot of guys on here run it. and more power to you for it. but i just wanna go with somethin different. and i live in Texas...Are the cops here gonna come find my truck and take it from me? Maybe in California they will but here in Texas i dont think they really care as much. I know police officers that have trucks louder than my Z71 which is pretty loud

how come yall like magnaflow so much? its over priced in my book. It is not worth the money when you can get a flow master flo pro or cherry bomb muffler for half the price and have better sound. And Darren didn you have flows on your chevy?? that sounded really good.

its all about preference. magnaflows sound good, but to some their not loud enough. flowmasters sound good to some, but too tin can sounding to others. there are so many muffler brands out there, go with wat u want and be happy. ive run magnaflows on my truck, and their a great muffler, just wanted something louder. ill never run a chambered muffler on my truck. i spent 40 bucks on a dynomax bullet, which is louder than any magnaflow and half the price. go with wat u want and be done with it.
