High Flow Cats vs Shorter Muffler
High Flow Cats vs Shorter Muffler
I have the MBRP Catback with a SIDO muffler. Louder is better for me so which would make the most difference? I want people to hear me coming.
Get hi flow cats and you will be amazed at the difference.
My Roush is already a 10" muffler and with the stock cats, I was not impressed at all with the sound. Unless you stomped on it, you didn't even really know an aftermarket exhaust was back there. Hell at idle you couldnt' even hardly hear it. I know thats because of the muffler design but I wasn't happy.
I had two Magnaflow 94106's installed and WOW what a difference. VERY agressive sound and have gotten many compliments about it already. You can hear it in the cab pretty well, but not at cruise speeds. There is a little faint noise at about 70mph, but nothing overpowering.
Idle is plenty loud and right off idle at just a blip of the throttle it wakes up big time. I'd leave your pretty MBRP exhaust alone and throw the cats in. I was able to find them brand new on Ebay for less than 100 shipped for both and then paid about 120 to have them put in. WELL worth it.

We do have emissions tests here in TX, but not near as strict as Cali. I lived there for a few years and coudlnt' believe how crappy that deal was.
The 94106 cats are not CARB legal, so wouldn't work in Cali, but they do make a cat that works almsot just as well that is CARB legal, but I don't know the part# off hand.

then time to make your truck get up and go VS loud and slow

Do both, hi-flow cats with a short SI/DO muffler ( not a junk Cherrybomb ) will be heard very well. But if your on a budget, get the hi-flow converters first. I've yet to hear hi-flow cats on an MBRP kit.

I just put high flow cats on my 22" Maggie and it really woke it up. Much deeper sound. Idle sounds awesome, part throttle sounds even better. WOT doens't sound that much louder but I haven't been outside it yet.
Possibly, it may only be the exhaust voided though.
what part number you went with?
