Better MPG's in 04 Ford Supercrew
Better MPG's in 04 Ford Supercrew
This kind of borders on a couple different discussions but I am interested in TRYING to get some more MPG's out of my truck. It has the 5.4 V8 with 33" tires on it now after I leveled it out. It currently has a K&N and Flowmaster exhaust and I average about 13 mpg.
I was told to look into getting the mileage XS from Superchips as well as using a volant air intake. Supposedly get 4-5 more mpg out of it, etc. They also indicated getting magnaflow exhaust instead but that might be a little out of the budget.
What are everyone's thoughts? with all the driving I have been doing lately I dont mind spending a little extra cash to try and help out my long term cause. Thanks in advance.

What do you mean by K&N, do you have a K&N intake kit without a custom tune? Your 5.4L engine is running very lean with an aftermarket intake, you must get custom tunes to safely run a CAI on your 3v 5.4. Thats one source of poor economy, and possibly from blowing your engine.
Custom tunes will help your truck significantly, adjusted shift points, stronger low end, a much more responsive throttle, very well worth it. Not just a 'chip' or programmer. 4 - 5mpg is over exaggerating it. At the most, you'll see 1mpg city, 1 - 2 highway.
The best tip for economy in these 5600lb machines, drive easy, stay below 70 on highway, and drive easy ( 2,000rpm shifts ). I get 15 - 16mpg averaged on my daily commutes which are about 60% city and 40% highway rough estimate, and 20.4 - 21.2mpg highway at 70mph ( no wind ).
