New high-flow cats. Do I need new muffler also?

Hello

I have decided that I probably have plugged cats and am thus going to replace them with 2 magnaflow high-flow cats. I have a 1999 F-150 5.4 V8 4x4 with about 186k. One recommendation was part#94106 for a quieter sound. Can somebody verify if this is indeed the right part # for a quieter sound, or if not recommend another? Also, since I am replacing both cats does it automatically make sense to replace the muffler while I am at it? Can somebody recommend a muffler if this is indeed the case? I am trying to keep the noise level as close to stock (quieter) as possible.

Thanks for the help.

the muffler doesnt need replacing long as its not rusted out. im pretty sure the 94106 cats are the louder ones. Darrenws6 can tell you for sure.

94106 cats are NOT at all quiet, they are near cat-less sounding. Any hi-flow cat will be substantially louder than OEM.

Thanks for the replies. Do I have any "quiet" cat options besides OEM? I would hate to spend that kind of money on OEM cats.

Thanks.

Go with 4 replacement Magnaflow cats and it shouldn't be too bad. I would say two but the other two would keep the volume down a tiny bit more. Call Magnaflow direct and ask what would be the best choice for you.
