New Exhaust Advice

I have a stock 2002 F150 Supercrew with the 5.4L Tritton Eng. I would love to put dual exhaust on the truck with a really nice, low rumble much like that of the Mustang Shelby (I'm not looking for it to be identicle but just giving you an idea of what I'm looking for). I'm a shade tree mechanic but with little to no knowledge about exhause systems. To make this conversion I would love your input on what to look for and what to expect cost wise. Remember I'm clueless on this subject and want to have at least a base understanding before talking to muffler shops. I do like the sound of the Flowmaster 50 series SUV/Truck exhaust if that helps.

Thanks in Advance!!!

if youre looking for the mustang sound the closest you can get is 'true' dual (2 separate mufflers) flowmaster mufflers, for you i'd say super 40 series, and an H crossover pipe. the H pipe is really important for the mustang sound.

Checked out the Super 40 and 44. Both sound really good. Ballpark wise how much are we talking to convert to dual exhaust with these? Are we talking $200 to $300, $300 to $400 or higher?

Depends, tips, pipe size, where you live all affect pricing.

also depends on are you gettin 'true duals',, or one single in, dual out muffler? if you go from stock, to true duals with an H pipe and tips youre lookin at $400

True duals vs single in w/ dual out. Is there a real advantage or reason to go to true dual exhausts over a single exhaust? This is new stuff to me so thanks for the input.

Yeah true duals makes it sound aggressive but robs your low end power, SI/DO you sound just as good and keep your power. Unless your really into performance and dont have alot of performance modifications to back it up true duals are unnecessary.

true duals sound much better and agressive than si/do. if si/do sounded as good as true duals then me and darren would both have si/do and gladly keep our torque and also you will not get the mustang sound out of one muffler.

I had just about settled on Flowmaster 44s with the H pipe but have been reading mixed reviews about Flowmaster compared to Magnaflow. Is there truly one better than the other or is this just a matter of preference? I'm not looking to do anything very expensive. I'm mainly looking for sound for a really good engine but I don't want to loose performance and/or gas mileage by making a change from stock OR by putting on the wrong duals.

Thanks
